PWH: You realized you held a gift for creative writing early on, what made you follow your writing path?

KH: Throughout my early studies and even my postgraduate studies, teachers and professors consistently noted my creative writing.  For me, the gift of creative writing is a calling and it serves a purpose for me to fulfill.  In the professional realm, I am obligated to write in a variety of capacities daily; however, I find that with creative writing, it allows me the opportunity to express myself and display my humor; yet, educate all at the same time. A desire to spark imagination and laughter while providing educational opportunities make me steadfastly follow my writing path.

PWH: How would you describe your writing style?

KH: If I had to describe my writing in one word, it would be imaginative.  My writing style encompasses imaginative language, visual imagery, and emotional appeal through narrative.  Using my originality and self-expression, I aim to create long-lasting vivid pictures in the reader’s mind.

PWH: What inspired your debut children’s book, “Have You Ever Seen a Zebra Eat Zucchini”?

KH: I read an article published in Psych Central, written by Margarita Tartakovsky stating that “Kids are natural innovators with powerful imaginations.” I have found that being around my four-year-old daughter ignites my creative spark and helps my creative energy to flow. Having a silly moment with my daughter, while in the car one day, I turned around and asked her have you ever seen a zebra eat zucchini? She instantly laughed as well as me. Over the next several days, I started writing an alphabet book full of silly questions and educational opportunities. The book is titled Have You Ever Seen a Zebra Eat Zucchini since the zebra and the zucchini came to my imagination first.

PWH: What message do you hope readers gain from your work?

KH: As a children’s book author, promoting creativity in children and encouraging imagination is of utmost importance. Children must tap into the crevices of their minds considering that imagination keeps one anchored in their purpose.  Have You Ever Seen a Zebra Eat Zucchini does all of the aforementioned things while inspiring children to learn about new foods and animals, piquing curiosity, and teaching alphabets, alliteration, coloring, and counting. At the heart of it all, readers can gain all these concepts and giggle. “A cheerful heart is good medicine.” Proverbs 17:22

PWH: What is next for Keshia Harper?

KH: I have penned more children’s books which I plan to release in 2021. I love a challenge; thus, I am particularly excited about launching a rhyming book, and I am just as excited about having written a manuscript containing suspense and a surprise ending.

PWH: What is your definition of a Pretty Woman Who Hustles?

KH: A pretty woman who hustles is a fearless and courageous woman who is willing to be a risk-taker.  She is one who keeps her purpose and vision at the forefront of her mind.   She is innovative, full of ideas, and sharp in business matters.  She is a leader who influences others to reach their maximum potential.
