Passion for Self-Care births DeJa Vu Skin

Nikki is the owner of DeJa Vu Skin Nikki is a mom, wife, sister and aunt and she loves to travel, read, cook and spend time with her family. Nikki worked as a Case manager for the Homeless population for 10 years and also became a certified domestic violence counselor working with battered women as well as men, she still helps out on the emergency hotline for domestic violence. These days you can find Nikki supporting her passion right along with her family creating quality products for herself as well as for others. Nikki also sends out positive affirmations to women daily to keep them uplifted and feeling great about themselves. NIkki believes that self-care is a priority and not a luxury and should be practiced daily in order to be at peace mentally physically and emotionally. While doing all this she is still looking to make her brand DeJa Vu Skin a household name!

What does success look like to you?

Success to me looks like, Teaching the importance of self-care to Women, men and children. Helping women change their lives, Inspiring others, Providing for my family Being a great mom, wife, daughter, sister, and friend, Supporting others Making sure I’m taking care of myself and practicing self care and staying grounded while accomplishing the above.

What kind of impact do you want to have on the world?

That taking care of ourselves is a necessity and not a luxury. We sometimes don’t realize that in order to do for others you have to be in good health yourself physically, mentally and emotionally.

Have you authored a book? What is the title and synopsis for your book? What do you want readers to gain from your book?

I am a Co-Author in the Book – Women Inspiring Nations I’m Still Standing. My Chapter in this book is called Pouring from an Empty Cup lead me to Self-Care. I want readers to gain the courage to overcome the trials they are currently or have been through and know that they can overcome them.

What is the name of your business? What type of business is it?

DéJa Vu Skin is a natural skin care line free of parabens and harsh skin irritants. DéJa Vu Skin is devoted to promoting mind body balance through ritualized self-care. Our products are for men, women and kids. DéJa Vu Skin is a black owned family company. Self-care is often a detail that is forgotten in our normal day to day, so the idea to create something to help ourselves as well as others embrace and practice self-care daily. It is our hope that we can begin to build a solid foundation and future through our community as well as social media involvement. While we or building we want you to look and feel great too!

What made you choose this type of business?

Through our own family’s, allergies and sensitivity to harsh chemicals used in products; DéJa Vu Skin was born.

What hurdles did you personally face in getting ready to open your business and how did you overcome them?

Not really getting the support from my community and or other business since we were knew and considered doing the same as other skin care companies. We continued to pitch our products and we finally got a break by being able to participate in Vending events and we also connected with Swagher Magazine which really pushed us further in the spotlight.

Does your company help the community where it is located?

Yes, we do we have help the homeless shelters by donating baskets and products to the guest, as well as participating in Community events.

Why did you choose entrepreneurship?

I think it chose us we never intended to make this a business it rally was for us but once people started getting a taste of what we were making people wanted to try it especially when was giving it away for free. The hubby stop that son after and explained they will have to purchase the products bc the items we use are not cheap. We are glad that we took this route though.

What would you say is your most driving motivation to keep doing what you to do?

I love seeing people happy and feel good about taking care of themselves.

Have you ever turned down a client?

Only when we don’t have the product in stock.

What are the goals you most want to accomplish in your business? What are the goals that you hold personally?

The goal I have for this business is to continue to thrive and be that brand that you will always remember and a household name of course. My goals are to become a Speaker, teacher/coach and motivator of Self-care.

Did you have any key mentors or people who deeply influenced who you are, what you believe in and what you’re committed to in your work and life? Tell me about them.

My Family is one of my inspiration they have always pushed me to never give up on what I believe in. I also have had others that really believe in the brand even when I didn’t know how far we would go. Thuwaibe Thezine and Charmyra Fleming and Mishka Jackson these women have definitely been in my corner and supported me to the fullest on everything that we have done s a brand.

If you had one piece of advice to someone just starting out, what would it be?

Never give up on your dreams, no matter how hard it gets. You will have good days and bad days and days where you are ready to say I give up. But always remember why you started and keep that momentum of striving to achieve.
