Monique Duell is the mother of 2 sons, caregiver, Advocate, International Speaker, Prophetess, Author, and Radio Show Host. Monique is the Founder of This Ability LLC, an organization that provides advocacy, education, support, and resources for special needs families in Prince George’s County MD. Monique is a participant in the Arc of Maryland Partners in Policymaking Advocacy Program, which prepares individuals to be effective advocates at the local, state, and federal levels.
She is the author of Grief is a Gangster, Jeremiah the Jackrabbit, Handicapped Mom: Lessons I Learned Through Cerebral Palsy and How Do I Handle a Special Needs Child? She is the co-author of The Power of God Daily Devotional II and 50 Shades of Pink: A Healing Journey to Self-Love.
Monique was featured on the PIC TV Network’s first-ever virtual book fair, which streams on Roku TV. In addition to TV, Monique has been interviewed and featured on several platforms internationally and locally, including Testimony Tuesday with Prophetess Venesia Williams and Inspiring Women for Aspiring Women with Stella K. both in the UK, 1 Billion Brave Show With Domo Jones, Bust a Move With Pam Reece, Wanda’s Warriors Live with Wanda Briscoe, Kingdom Talk Broadcast with Dr. Nicckay Natson and Broken But Not Bruised with Prophetess Monica Floyd, just to name a few.
She was featured in the November 2021 issue of Faith Heart Magazine’s “Women Who Are Changing the Face of Ministry”. Monique was also featured in Legacy in the Making Magazine as a, “Brilliant Author”. Monique received rave reviews for her in-depth presentation, ‘Caregiver C.P.R.’ at the Faith and Mental Health Summit in 2022, about recognizing and preventing caregiver burnout.
Monique served as the Associate Pastor of God’s End Time Deliverance Ministry under the leadership of the late Apostle Philip Williams and Lady Verna Williams.
Monique is a multi-award recipient. Black Girlz Rock is honoring Monique with the ‘Shero’ award in March 2023. In November 2022, The President and CEO of The PIC TV Network, Dr. David Evans, presented her with the Community Heroes Award in November 2022. Monique also received the SISTER’s Award for Encouragement that same month. In 2016, Monique received the Grace Girl Award in the ‘She Overcomes’ category by Lady Trina Jenkins during FBCG’s He Loves Me Women’s Conference for her perseverance in overcoming extreme hardships.
She is also a radio show host and podcaster. Her riveting show and podcast, ‘Having a Moment with Moni’ gives us a raw, transparent, and intimate look into her life as she navigates through life as a special needs parent. Her podcast is streaming on all major platforms, including Apple Podcasts, iHeart, and Spotify.
What inspired the start of “This Ability LLC “?
This Ability was a concept the Lord gave me over 10 years ago while I was still coming to terms with having a son with cerebral palsy who can’t walk or do anything for himself. As devastating and traumatic as that was, I knew that I wanted to help other parents and caregivers overcome the trauma, guilt, and shame that we go through as special needs parents. I tucked it away because, at the time, I was in no position to minister to anyone else. It wasn’t until after my grandmother and sister’s funerals just days apart in 2021 that the Lord spoke to me and said that it was time for This Ability LLC to come forth.
What has been the biggest challenge of running a brand like “This Ability LLC “?
The biggest challenge of running my brand was ME! I had to get out of my own way and trust that God has already given me everything pertaining to This Ability LLC and beyond. I was literally afraid of my own greatness.
How does ” This Ability LLC ” impact the community?
This Ability LLC has impacted the community by providing spiritual and emotional support through ministry that other agencies don’t provide. Our goal is to help change the mindset of parents and caregivers about God and their loved one’s disabilities to prevent caregiver burnout, suicide, or depression in addition to providing other resources and services.
Where do you hope to see your brand in the next 3-5 years?
This Ability LLC will be a mega ministry that will change how we engage and navigate through life with family and friends with a disability through advocacy and education in our schools, churches, and communities.
What advice do you have for the next generation of entrepreneurs?
Do what God says to do the first time and the rest will fall into place. Don’t ignore the vision or make excuses. If the Lord has given it to you, it’s already yours. Walk in it!
What does being “Pretty and Black Owned” mean to you?
Being “Pretty and Black Owned” means that I’m a beautiful and unmovable enterprise that will shatter glass ceilings so that my sons and generations to come will know that they too have the power in the black skin that they’re in to do the same.
