She’s Pretty and Black Owned: Meet Naima Crawford
Pretty and Black Owned is a celebration of brilliance, beauty, and bold business moves. This series spotlights Black women who are building powerful brands, creating impact, and owning their lane with confidence and purpose. From passion to profit, these women represent what it looks like to lead, thrive, and win.
Hazel J Events & Co. was born from the evolution of Hazel J’s Closet, a brand originally rooted in fashion and self-expression. As our mission grew, so did our passion. We’ve now transitioned into a full-service event coordination company, curating intentional, stylish experiences for people who want more than just an event — they want a moment. Whether it’s a wellness meetup, a stylish gathering, or a community celebration, we bring creativity, care, and clarity to every detail. This rebrand reflects our commitment to serving with purpose, while still honoring the heart of where we started.

Meet Naima Crawford
What inspired the start of Hazel J Events?
Hazel J Events was inspired by my love for bringing people together in intentional ways. I noticed a need for experiences that felt both beautiful and grounding, especially for women who are often juggling work, life, and responsibilities. What began as a passion for creating meaningful gatherings evolved into a brand centered on connection, wellness, and thoughtful event coordination.
At its core, Hazel J Events is also rooted in legacy. The women in my family shaped how I lead, create, and hold space, teaching me the importance of care, resilience, and intentional living. Every experience I design honors that foundation and is meant to foster genuine connection and community.
What has been the biggest challenge of running a brand like Hazel J Events?
One of the biggest challenges has been striking a balance between creativity and the logistics of running a business. Wearing multiple hats while staying true to my vision has required discipline, patience, and trust in the process. Learning to pace growth without sacrificing quality has been an ongoing lesson.
How does Hazel J Events impact its local community?
Hazel J Events creates spaces where women can slow down, connect, and feel supported. I prioritize working with local vendors, wellness practitioners, and small businesses, which helps circulate resources within the community while uplifting other entrepreneurs.
How can women in particular benefit from what your brand has to offer?
Hazel J Events offers women opportunities to slow down, foster connections, and feel supported, creating intentional experiences that prioritize their well-being and sense of community.
In addition, I support women in bringing their dream celebrations and gatherings to life, especially those who may feel overwhelmed or unsure about planning on their own. Through guidance, coordination, and thoughtful execution, Hazel J Events helps turn ideas into meaningful experiences they can truly enjoy.
Where do you hope to see your brand in the next 3–5 years?
Over the next few years, I aim to expand Hazel J Events into a recognized wellness and lifestyle brand that hosts signature events, offers digital products, and collaborates with like-minded creatives and businesses both locally and internationally.
What advice do you have for the next generation of entrepreneurs?
Start before you feel ready and allow yourself room to grow. Stay consistent, be open to learning, and do not be AFRAID TO PIVOT. Most importantly, build something that aligns with your values, not just trends.
What does being “Pretty and Black Owned” mean to you?
Being “Pretty and Black Owned” means fully stepping into who I am and owning my vision without apology. It represents confidence, creativity, and the freedom to lead as HER while honoring my identity, culture, and community. It’s about building something beautiful, impactful, and intentional as a Black woman, while creating space for others to do the same.
