For Women’s History Month I will be sharing the stories that define and provide examples of women empowerment, uplifting stories of personal triumph and businesses that are inspiring and are making a difference for women. Women’s History Month is a declared month each year that highlights the contributions of women to events in history and contemporary society.
I want to introduce you to Nik Snow, Natural Healer/Comedian/Entrepreneur.
What can we say about Nik Snow well let’s sum it up in a nutshell… Nik Snow is an entertainer who truly believes that healing takes place in every facet of our lives. She uses her talents to help others help begin, continue, or start their self healing journey. And what does that mean Nik Snow is a certified Usui Reiki practitioner, Meditation and Mindfulness Influencer. Nik discovered holistic practices many years ago when she was beginning her own healing process. That’s right would you believe Nik suffered from depression for many years and was introduced to such holistic healing ways that later she would begin to studying and offering. Before learning those ways…. she’s always used laughter (being a natural comedic person) to keep herself going and others . Little did she know she will soon begin performing publicly. In April of 2017 a colleague entered her into a comedy competition in DC. Nik won the competition out of nine seasoned Comedians. Her not a Riley to go fast as she headed to New York to perform at Broadway comedy club in Manhattan. She literally performed all over the DMV and even in Richmond Virginia. Soon depression would rear its ugly head again. Nik knew she had to find a way to continue living with depression instead of running away from it. So in 2018 she re-opened her business and combined all of her services into one entity. The Antidote Beauty and Mindfulness Suite located at 6846 Race Track Road Suite 102 in Bowie, Maryland 20715. Her suite is 110 ft.² of laughter healing and beauty. Nik believes the antidote for healing begins the moment you acknowledge it’s OK to feel, to cry, to hurt but it’s not OK to stay there ….we can all learn to live through our pain and use it to help us begin a healing journey and to help others help themselves henceforth The Antidote . Now she’s on a mission to spread her message and hopes to one day do her very own Ted talk as she believes that depression is the prerequisite to helping yourself to help others help themselves..We all connect on a higher level than we think . We all feel and that’s one of the many ways we connect as human beings “feelings”..Nik Says. Laughter soothes the soul…So what if we combined it all together well Nic did just that you’re going to laugh you want to cry and you’re going to begin a true healing journey when you meet this 4 foot 11 1/2 foot standing woman who we affectionately call Nik Snow.
Here is HERstory:
My story begins with feelings of depression, and I’m glad it does because I do not felt this terrible feeling I would not be the woman I am today. Depression has allowed me to truly look at people outside of the normal lengths of how we view people. As an empathic person I can feel another person’s energy from miles and miles and miles away. I know when someone’s happy. I know when someone sad. I know when someone’s in different and it allows me to connect with them on another level. So in retrospect depression has been my greatest triumph. It has even made me a comedian what an oxymoron son would say. However I honor my journey and I am on a mission to help others honor theirs through laughter, through healing, and through connecting. I think I found the antidote and I will share it as much as I can because we all deserve to live no matter what we’ve gone through or what we’re going through if we still have breath in us we still have another chance to make the day- But overall make our lives count. And that’s my story. I also would love to leave a legacy to my 10-year-old son Korey. That healing begins the day we feel sadness but every feeling will be the greatest feeling ever because we will use it to help ourselves and to help others and my son will continue to help himself and others because it’s already in embedded in him. So to sum it up my story is pain turned conqueror. Thank you:)
Her business is The Antidote Beauty and Mindfulness Suite.
What does women empowerment mean to you?
Women empowerment means helping one another through collectively sharing thoughts, life journeys, I’ll try ounce and hour pain we have to be able to connect on a higher level so that we can help one another grow that’s women empowerment to me.
What advice or words of inspiration would you like to share with someone?
I would like to say to that woman who is battling any type of mental illness to know that she is not alone we all know the feeling of depression or anxiety but we don’t all share it so know that you are not alone and there are women out here who can help you help yourself….You just Gotta let us know.
What do you want your legacy to be?
I want my legacy to be that no matter what my life has taken me or will take me through I will never stop helping other people learn to help themselves.
What inspires you?
This is going to sound cliché but healing inspires me… nothing fancy or tangible will ever inspired me . I am inspired by the innate authentic aura of human beings ….we are much more than meets the eye the world tries to dumb that down but once we tap into who we really are ….we are powerful and we can help one another By sharing instead of perpetrating.
What kind of impact do you want to have on those around you?
I want those around me to see how authentically I live and to know they too can live authentically they don’t have to keep up with the Joneses they can just be who they are innately and be happy with that and continue to grow and continue to heal and never stop and share that with others.
What does self care mean to you?
Self-care to me means listening to my body and understanding that I must take a moment for myself to feel everything my body wants me to feel it’s kind of like resetting….., everything needs to be reset remotes, TVs, electric system in a car…etc so our bodies have to reset our minds have to reset so self-care to me is allowing the natural reset to take place.
What obstacles have you overcome or hurdles did you personally face and how did you overcome them?
I have overcome the feeling of being sad about being a person who sometimes gets depressed….I’ve learned to honor it and I’m not saying depression feels good what I am saying is those moments allow me to be very vulnerable it allows me to cry allows me to feel and once it passes I am always better than I was before.
When did you realize entrepreneurship was right for you?
I don’t think I have realized yet that entrepreneurship is for me I just answered the call and although I have worked several jobs over my life time I will always try to do what I’m called to do entrepreneurship allows me to help others the way that I am called to do
Why did you choose entrepreneurship?
This time I chose entrepreneurship because I wanna be able to help people the way that I am cold too and I can’t do that in a regulated setting. So owning my own business allows me to craft a special recipe which I call THE ANTIDOTE.
What would you say is your most driving motivation to keep doing what you to do?
My clients are my driving motivation they remind me all the time then what I’m doing means the most to them and although I’m not in a huge space what I am doing within the 110 ft.² that I lease is reaching people hearts farther than I can see that motivates me daily.
What are you most excited or passionate about? (In both business and life or both)
Within business what I am most excited about is the opportunity to grow if I really put in the effort to grow my business it could be huge so knowing the possibility is there is exciting. In life I am passionate about healing, mental illness intrigues me so much so I’m surprised I am not a doctor LOL but of course if I was a doctor I wouldn’t be able to really connect with people the way that I want to that’s what I believe anyway so I am passionate about. Helping myself and continuing helping others to help themselves.
What are the goals you most want to accomplish in your business and personally?
The ultimate go I would like to have a brick and mortar space of my own and not lease a space in the salon suites atmosphere. I think my clients would benefit from pulling up to a house like structure that says THE ANTIDOTE on the outside and them knowing as soon as they step inside their lives have changed forever. My personal goal is to always honor my pain and use it as myPurpose to continue to help myself and to help others and to stay as authentic as possible because it works for me.
Did you have any key mentors or people who deeply influenced who you are, what you believe in and what you’re committed to in your work and life? Tell me about them.
Absolutely the very first person I can remember is an old colleague of mine she introduced Abraham hicks to me and then another colleague introduced the secret to me I will forever be grateful for those two people because they open my mind to Healing and I never ever discussed with them that I was feeling depressed but I think they just knewBehind my smiles and my laughter I think they knew and I will never forget that…I also admire the person who attuned me freaky her name is Carlissa Hurtt… she is a Reiki master but outside of that she is is a great human being I really look up to her and I don’t even think she knows how much I do but I try to remind her as much as I can Carlissa owns essence of energy wellness in Waldorf Maryland …that’s another phenomenal woman to get to know.
Did you have any life-changing experiences that put you on the path that led you to be doing what you’re doing today? Tell me about them.
One of my biggest life changing experience is is when I decided to practice Nichiren Buddhism…. The practice taught me to be accountable for all of my actions and to watch the karma that I put out into the world. That was huge for me because before that practice I will blame others for how I was feeling. But that practice taught me to take ownership and accountability and I think many of us need that lesson LOL.
What is your zodiac sign and your life Path number?
