Mentoring Next Gen Artists Through the Wilson Foundation for Performing Arts and Sciences

Music runs through her blood, Latrice Pace is Gospel Royalty. As a part of The Anointed Pace Sisters, her family holds a place in Gospel music. With that she has made it a point to extend her lessons learned as well as provide support to the next generation of artists through the Wilson Foundation for Performing Arts and Sciences. This foundation provides young, aspiring artists with the guidance and support they need to succeed in the competitive world of performing arts.

In this Interview we chat about the work she is doing with the Wilson Foundation and she also provides guidance and encouragement for those who are unsure on how to keep going.

For Latrice Pace, mentoring is not just about sharing knowledge; it’s about instilling confidence, fostering creativity, and nurturing the dreams of young artists.

How you’re mentoring the next generation of artists through the Wilson Foundation for Performing Arts and Sciences.

Latrice Pace: I’m working with the Wilson Foundation for Performing Arts and Sciences. Doctor Michelle Yolanda Michelle Gibbons is the founder of it, and she initially came in to just help me, you know, finish getting the music out. But she ended up starting the foundation because she saw something beyond where we were going to performing arts schools like Duke Ellington School of Performing Arts, the Harlem School of the Arts. They have, like an after-school program, and we’re actually doing something this fall where we’re doing master classes throughout, like for an entire week, but in a fun way for the kids to enjoy and to glean from my experiences, and even to help pull out their gifts and their skills as well. So I’m excited about that. I realize all of us, there’s a mentoring aspect to everything that we do, and we have a responsibility to take what God has given us and pour it into the next generation.

What do you want to leave as words of encouragement for anyone right now, who’s, you know, who may have wanted to be nominated or something and they didn’t get it, or someone who is feeling they’re dragging their feet on starting a project, or someone who’s feeling like they don’t they don’t know how to walk into what they’ve been called to do. What words of encouragement would you give to them?

Latrice Pace: I would say to anyone who’s not sure how to walk out their calling, seek God. Ask Him. And I don’t want to say seek God—it’s just as simple as just ask God. Sometimes when we say seek God, people think they have to pray for ten days or whatever. No, just ask God. He is willing and ready and able to give you all the answers you don’t have. So just ask Him. I would also say, get in a space where you can hear Him, where you’re not cluttered and clouded with what everybody else thinks you should be doing. Ask God, and it can be something as simple as recording one song and putting that out. Don’t feel like you have to have everything right now. I often tell people, if God tells you to do something and you only have $10, do $10 worth of what He told you to do. It’s the act of obedience that allows other things to unfold and allows the provision. When you’re on that path of obedience, you will intersect with the provision. So you just have to act and trust Him to make the way. To anybody who may have wanted to be nominated for anything, wanting to be recognized and acknowledged—all of that is good, and I’m not downplaying it, but keep your motives pure and know that God rewards. These are awards, but God ultimately rewards. Keep doing what you’re doing, and in time, He hasn’t forgotten about you. It’ll happen when it’s supposed to happen, and you’ll be even more grateful knowing the path it took for you to get to where you want to go. So just wait and be okay with knowing that God has a plan. He ain’t out here guessing on us.
