Pretty & Rejoicing with Gospel Singer Talasia

Talasia is an Atlantic City, New Jersey native, born into music. Talasia established her musicality from observing her mother at the studio where she frequently recorded original music. After years of singing in the Abundant Life Center choir, the singer was inspired to write her own music, but feared that her music was unsuitable for gospel due to its unconventional lyrical and melodic style. Talasia held steadfast to writing music, continuously maturing in the Lord. The versatile singer is intentional about her word play, strategically utilizing thought-provoking messages.

I had the pleasure of sitting down with Talasia to discuss her undeniable gift of music and her willingness to share The Word of God with our generation.

At what moment did you realize you had a gift for music?
I honestly feel like I’m just starting to understand that I’m gifted by God and for a purpose. Before this, I was just doing what made me happy internally.

How would you describe your creative flow when writing music?
I really lock into the zone when I’m creating. I’m listening to the track over and over to feel it out and feel what it makes me wanna write about. If I’m writing a song from scratch, most times I can hear the chords, beat, and special drops in my head while I’m creating. That’s how my next single “Everybody Gon See” came about. I heard it all in my head and I wanted to get a little ratchet and brag on God big time.

Your new single rejoice, what is the inspiration behind it?
The struggle is the inspiration. We all have struggled at one point or another in our lives and sometimes life’s struggles can make you want to give up on everything. Depression, anxiety, and just overall feelings of defeat can creep up on you when you’re going through a rough season. Rejoice is about changing your perspective about going through and understanding that if God says everything will work out for our good that means even that ugly situation, that traumatic situation, and yes even that “seemingly” unbearable situation will work out for your GOOD. He PROMISED. So we CHOOSE to rejoice while we go through until we come out on the other side shining!

What message do you hope women walk away with from your single?
I hope women will understand the true power God has given us. Don’t be afraid to look your problems and obstacles in the face and tell them to move up out of your way! We got stuff to do!!! He empowers us to conquer here on earth, to duplicate our strength in others by sharing our experiences and testimonies! I’m not afraid to tell my sister my downfalls because in that same story because I follow God, it ends with triumph EVERY SINGLE TIME! REJOICE, sis… Better is literally on its way to you!

Where do you hope to see your career in the next 3-5 years?
I pray that 5 years from now we would have traveled to more places we haven’t been to yet to share God with them! It’s one of my dreams to travel the world and worship with all of God’s people! I pray our music will open up opportunities for us not only to do our music abroad but to actually do ministry! I want to help others as Jesus did. Being able to help people get stable in their life, providing financial literacy and entrepreneurship information, providing clothing, food, shelter, bibles, love, kindness, and God’s word to all those who will receive it is something I want to do full time for the rest of the life I have left.

What is next for Talasia?
I have my plan and God has His so I hope they are close to being the same plan lol. I plan on continuing to work hard, putting out music, hopefully touring next year. There are so many things I want to do like take my side business “Luxe Lavish” which is my online clothing boutique for women to the next level by finally branding my line and extending it to men/ children in the future. I love fashion which is why I decided to start “Luxe Lavish” as well. I also want to be a part of starting up a label for artists, which is in the works. I’m really good at creating, writing, and producing music and music videos. It’s something I enjoy doing. I’ve been working a 9-5 and then dedicating the rest of my 24 hours to my music and business for a while. I hope to be fully working for myself sooner than later.

What is your definition of a Pretty Woman Who Hustles?
I believe a woman who loves herself, loves others and is kind-hearted, loves God and is focused, driven, and uses what she has to accomplish what she wants is a “Pretty Woman Who Hustles”! I believe being beautiful on the inside is so much more important than what’s on the outside!
