Meet the Creator of The Beauty and Barber Awards – Tiffané Nicol

What inspired you to create The Beauty and Barber Awards and why is it important to highlight beauty professionals?

The BBB Awards was inspired by my experience of being a Celebrity Make-Up Artist and sometimes not feeling appreciated for the work and countless hours we put into developing these looks. Working in specific professional settings, even with your everyday customers, you can feel like “just a hairstylist.” But we are so much more than that. We are artists who dedicate our time and craft to our clients. We are, in most cases, pillars in communities, almost like churches and therapists. We sacrifice a whole lot. I remember being pregnant in my last months still spending hours doing hair. So many times, my hands and feet were swollen. But that’s how passionate I am; we care about our craft and our clients. So I wanted to uplift and celebrate the Beauty and Barber industry for that very reason.

We are so needed. Before any artist grace a stage that is serviced by their glam squad. And, most times, we are the last to receive a thank you. The Beauty and Barber Bosses Awards will shift that narrative and give roses to all the diamonds in the ruffs that don’t receive their flowers.

What do you feel is missing from the beauty industry?

It is time for the Beauty and Barber Industry Leaders to get their flowers. Our passion and hard work can sometimes go unnoticed and unappreciated, but it is that very same passion and hard work that adds to a person’s confidence, storytelling, even down to a mood.

Who is the ideal candidate for Beauty and Barber Awards?

That’s a great question! The ideal candidate for The Beauty and Barber Bosses Awards is someone who employs others, feeds other families, and leads well. The perfect candidate to win any category in The Beauty and Barber Bosses Awards exemplifies the definition of a boss, and not in finance but in true leadership. And if they are not currently leading, they are setting themselves up to lead well.

Being a Beauty and Barber Boss is not a selfish act; it is a service from the heart while understanding the ins and outs of operating in the Beauty Industry.
