She’s Pretty and Black Owned: Meet Annterria Bruce

Vagesty – a feminine hygiene one-stop shop for women’s health aiming to promote holistic vaginal healing and self improvement through positive and versatile approaches while encouraging love, self-care and immunity. This includes offering products such as menstrual discs, feminine wipes, period panties, emergency period kits, subscription boxes plus more!

Founded by a Women’s Nurse Practitioner, Vagesty offers services such as women’s health consultations and courses for “My First Menses,” pregnancy and overall women’s health.  We aim to guide individuals along their own healing journey in hopes to help ignite their vaginal health approaches through education, advocacy and service.

What inspired the start of “Vagesty”?

With my history of chronic bacterial vaginosis and polycystic ovarian syndrome, I wanted to educate other women on how to manage and treat the two as well as other health issues many women face today. With my background in women’s health I decided to create Vagesty, a one-stop shop for women’s health. Offering affordable products, coaching, and educational courses.

What has been the biggest challenge of running a brand like “Vagesty”?

The biggest challenge of running my brand is marketing. I’ve gotten better over the years as I learn new strategies. I’ve learned that even though social media is free marketing, it shouldn’t be your only marketing avenue. I’m currently getting into guerilla marketing; word of mouth is still one of the best ways to market. It’s important for business owners to know that branding and marketing is one key to success as well as consistency. It’s also important to know that if you can hire a team please do pass the role on.

How does “Vagesty” impact the community?

Vagesty impacts the community by offering natural affordable feminine hygiene products and valuable information on women’s health. We have also donated products to women’s shelters in the past and will continue to do so.

What message do you hope young girls and women take away from your brand?

I hope young girls and women know that Vagesty’s mission is to show the importance of caring for your feminine health. We aim to guide individuals along their own healing journey in hopes to help ignite their feminine health approaches through education, advocacy, and service.

Where do you hope to see your brand in the next 3-5 years?

In 3-5 years I see my brand as the Amazon for women’s health. I have so many ideas for Vagesty. I would even like to open up a Vagesty Aesthetics and Wellness Spa in Houston, Tx.

What advice do you have for the next generation of entrepreneurs?

The advice I have for the next generation of entrepreneurs is to believe in yourself, write down your goals and watch them manifest. Get a professional to help you with a business plan, have all your business documents and accounts in order to make sure everything is legit, don’t mix business and personal. Don’t give up when it seems like you are not making any progress. We all have our seasons and yours will come too. Also learn about business credit, pitching, and how to get business funding. I started my business by working extra shifts as a RN. So if you want it you have to be motivated to go get it.

What does being Pretty and Black-owned mean to you?

Pretty and black-owned means to me exactly what it says, I’m pretty and black plus I own a brand and not afraid to show it. I’ve been supporting black-owned businesses before I started my black-owned business. In fact seeing other black-owned businesses inspired me to start mine. Pretty Black women are showing up and out as business owners and I love to see my sisters win. It’s great to have magazines like pretty women hustle, it’s a safe place for us, thank you for all you do.
