An iconic artist with a unique style and a passion for fashion, Bella Blaq started from the bottom and, within the last few years, catapulted her music career, gaining over 120 million views on the social media platform TikTok. Bella’s groundbreaking lyrics and confidence have landed her several endorsement deals and put her in talks with major networks to do significant things.
We had the pleasure of sitting down with Bella Blaq to discuss her musical influences, her creativity and her plans for the future.
Outside of music, fashion design, and entertainment, who is Bella Blaq?
Bella is an icon, a mom, a fighter, a survivor. I had a car wreck back in 2019 and was told I would never walk again, and if I were to, the doctors didn’t know when. I flipped my truck five times; it was terrible. I tried therapy and everything. I was even prescribed medicine, but nothing helped at the time. I literally had to teach myself how to walk again and have the faith, fight, and willpower to do so. I remember crawling around my apartment, up and down stairs, questioning God, wondering what happens now. I need my legs, God. I need my feet to perform, get on stage, etc. It was a lot, but I kept pushing, and look at me now. In movies, being an entrepreneur, a better human, a mom, an artist, and so much more.
When did you realize you held a passion for music?
Music has always been my passion, and it got even stronger after my wreck, just realizing that that’s something that drives me to live and be great. I have a story the world has to hear.
Who would you credit as your musical influences?
Jay Z is my top. Lol, I love Lauryn Hill, Missy Elliott, Andre 3000. Those are my spirit animals.
How would you describe your music in five words?
Soul food, creative, iconic, storytelling, legendary.
Take us through your creative process. What is it like behind the scenes for Bella Blaq?
I like to write and pick beats alone, lol. I just started being comfortable with writing and creating around others. My music is so dear to me, especially after learning to walk again during that entire process. I did most of my writing in bed in my room. I like to create in settings that assist my emotions. There’s a lot that goes into my process.
What is next for you? What can we expect from you?
Expect greatness. I’ll be releasing a documentary soon to provide more insight into my story, as well as more amazing records, collaborations, and blessings.
