From RadioBae to TeacherBae is a bold shift. What inspired your transition from media to the classroom?
Honestly, it sort of just flowed or fell in my lap. I was able to see myself around the kids, grow to love them, and finally, I’m feeling like I’m waking up every day not dreading going to what I call “work”. This year, I took a new role, and I’m excited to simply pour and do kingdom work. Ultimately, there’s no shift, just wearing many hats and maximizing my voice.
How do you describe the mission behind both of your identities: RadioBae and TeacherBae?
It’s the voice doing her purpose work, and I think it’s now pouring into the younger generation – that’s the focus. The journey has been my city, the artist and music scene, and it is currently shifting.
What have been some of the most surprising similarities between your time on-air and your time in the classroom?
When I speak, people listen, my voice has power – no matter the environment, age, or topic – it’s pretty cool, yet I know that it’s not me – all God.
You’ve been a staple in Nashville’s entertainment scene. How do you feel your platform helped shape the culture of the city?
I mean, look at us, there are plenty of media outlets and podcasts that cover all of Nashville! Local talent is now spinning regularly on our Hip-Hop station; they have access to the station – music city HIPHOP is well and alive, and that’s been my motto. I had it on a shirt way back when – I’m just so grateful and happy for us! I made it fun again to rep CASHVILLE with dignity – I took my city everywhere with me – and demanded room for us in our city and in every room I entered. It’s surreal sometimes! I love my city! 615
Tell us more about The Voice of Cashville and the impact it’s had on local artists and creatives.
It was an outlet I created based on my name. I mean, ultimately, it’s me sharing the platform that I’ve built and worked hard for – with others I feel deserve more light and or recognition.
Your Music City Check-In series has made a comeback. What can fans expect from this new chapter?
Oh wow! I mean, we have a new and improved location – a different format, and I’ve freshened up my skills by taking some classes to secure some television time! So I’m excited!
What does reshaping education mean to you, and how are you implementing that in Nashville schools?
It’s getting the correct people in those rooms to nurture and love on them based on how they need to be loved – not how you, as an adult, feel they need to be loved. You have to have a special heart and eye. I’ve signed up to serve and show up to show them it’s possible, but everything starts here, and how they build a routine and structure for their life forever! Whatever they don’t do now, they pay for it later!
How do your students respond to having a teacher who’s also a media personality?
Honestly, not all my students are aware. When I do the announcements, they say Ms.Patton, was that you? Lol, but that’s about it.
You’re known for “pushing the pen forward.” How do you use your influence to teach beyond textbooks?
Well, I am now a PE teacher, so it’s providing them with the physical tools to be successful to live a healthy, abundant life – physically, mentally, and emotionally.
You curated the 61Fitness for 615 Community Day: why is wellness and community connection important to your brand?
I had the opportunity to curate the first one, yes! My fitness and health journey has been a hard but beautiful transformation, and I’ve allowed my platform to see firsthand. I personally feel like, since 2020, we got lazy as a collective, and we only have 1 body, so we have to nurture it with what it needs, not what the world says or offers, but what you need to nurture your shell. I want us to live our best, longest lives!
What role does community storytelling play in your Cashville Newscast, and why was it important to launch it?
Just exposing my community to things I come across on my timeline, you know, our algorithm is all different, but mine is catered to news and entertainment, so I just hit on things I feel like
My community may not always know – locally and around the world! – and it’s simple because my voice matters!
Can you talk about your three signature drinks at Vibes Lounge? What inspired their names and flavors?
Yes! I’m so grateful for the summer spin and the owner for allowing it to be. So I have the ATP; a passion fruit margarita, the Averianna Drop; a kiwi drop, and lastly the Voice of Vibes; a dirty Shirley temple. The names came from my dad and the owner; it was a no-brainer for them, and I loved it!
You often say you’re a ‘Soulja of the Light.’ How do you stay grounded while balancing purpose, passion, and public influence?
I simply let his light guide me. I rid myself and life of distractions and lock in to hear his voice.
What legacy do you hope to leave behind in both media and education?
She was truly the voice of the city behind the mic and in the community. She did the work and tackled every avenue of media while opening up more doors for Nashville’s hip-hop scene, not only in her city but around the world. I hope to have produced several television shows and my own radio show until the end of time! She was truly God’s Soulja of the light!
What advice do you have for the next generation of creatives, educators, and changemakers who look up to you?
Don’t stop the grind, and don’t forget self-love through all the things you may encounter. Lastly, ALWAYS, ALWAYS be authentic – because that’s what changes lives!
