With over 35 years of entertaining audiences, Lifetime continues to reign as the ultimate entertainment destination for women. This winter Lifetime will release two new and authorized biopics along with three new documentaries detailing some of the biggest names in the music industry. The movie biopics will feature music icons Salt-N-Pepa and Wendy Williams; and also a new documentary featuring Whitney Houston. Each biopic will also feature its own documentary interview specials following the film air dates in January 2021.
This season of entertainment bliss will kick off on Saturday, January 23rd at 8 PM/ET with the three hour Lifetime original movie titled, Salt-N-Pepa. This biopic will feature the story of the groundbreaking hip hop duo from their journey from Queensborough Community College to recording icons. Salt-N-Pepa was one of the first all female rap groups who changed the landscape of the male dominated hip hop industry and are still reigning in the industry for over 35 years. They were unafraid to talk about men and sex; and their ground-breaking success led to multiple awards and accolades in the industry. The “Push It” superstars are being portrayed by actresses GG Townson as Cheryl “Salt” James and Laila Odom as Sandra “Pepa” Denton. The biopic is being produced by Sony Pictures Television and directed by Mario Van Peebles. The movie will be directly followed by an intimate documentary special hosted by Loni Love. The documentary will highlight behind the scene footage, interviews and even a special guest appearance.
The second winter lineup will feature the outspoken media shock jock, Wendy Williams. Wendy Williams: The Movie is the first biopic of its kind that will detail her rise to fame and personal struggles. Premiering on Saturday, January 30th at 8 PM/ET and followed by the documentary: The Wendy Williams Story…What a Mess! The authorized biopic project reveals a look at Wendy’s journey from her days in urban radio to her successful syndicated talk show. Ciera Payton is playing the lead role as Wendy Williams and Morocco Omari stars as Wendy’s ex-husband, Kevin Hunter. Produced by Front Street and executive produced by Wendy Williams, Will Packer and Sheila Ducksworth; this film debut will be epic. It is also directed by Darren Grant.
On February 6th at 8 PM/ET Lifetime will air the two hour documentary known as Whitney & Bobbi. This documentary will highlight their family bond, struggles with illegal substances; and more through intimate interviews from close family & friends. This documentary will also serve as a celebration of their lives and their individual starpower.
