Many dream of various platforms of success. Some study for their chance while others let their feet hit the pavement.  Desiree Talley is definitely one woman who is living out her dreams. She’s a talented and multifaceted woman who is changing the culture with her gift.

Desiree wears many hats to craft her passion in various elements. She is an entertainment lawyer, model and podcast host. Her role in the legal industry was interesting to date. She quickly learned, grew and rose in rank. She currently leads her own boutique law firm known as Talley Law Group. It wasn’t easy though and she has advice for aspiring lawyers.

“Aspiring attorneys should network and ask for help! Take advantage of LinkedIn to reach out to attorneys for advice and guidance,” she advises. “Embarking on a legal career can be challenging because there are so many paths to take and doing it alone is hard. So lighten the load. If you ask, seasoned attorneys are more inclined to help students or young attorneys figure it out,” she continues.  In addition to impacting the courtroom, Desiree has impacts our culture and community.

The LA native is actively supporting some of our favorite entertainment enterprises as they curate content for the big screen. Her advisement is priceless as a woman of color in a male dominated industry. “I am impacting communities of color by educating my people on the law and ensuring that they understand the legal significance of their deals. When in private practice, I made sure to inform my clients that education is a part of my practice and that their participation in that education was required in order for me to represent them,” Desiree adds. “Sometimes, I would make minor typos in the agreement so they can catch it. If they did not catch the typo, I knew that they did not read the agreement. I did this to empower them to be able to make sound, independent decisions moving forward,” she confessed.

Her impact doesn’t stop there. She also created and hosts her own entertainment and pop culture podcast. “My impact on communities of color is still highlighted through my podcast, POPLAW. The POPLAW Podcast is an entertainment law podcast where I educate listeners on the law through the guise of celebrity lawsuits,” Desiree states. “If there is a hot topic in entertainment with a legal component, it will be discussed on POPLAW. This is a free resource for people who cannot afford an attorney to learn how to navigate agreements on their own,” she says proudly.

Balance is definitely key when you navigate various platforms like Desiree. For her, she prides herself on self-care or “me time”. “During my me time, I completely unplug from my cell phone or computer for at least an hour, so that I can be fully present and focus on myself. With a highly stressful job like mine, ‘me time’ is important and black girls deserve luxury too!,” she adds. Desiree Talley is the Commentator for the Culture by all means.
