God’s Promise: There is Purpose!

I continue to evolve, shedding the old and walking into the new. As time passes, I’ve realized no work is ever done in vain. No experiences that I have been through are without purpose. Sometimes we find ourselves in situations and we just can’t fathom why our heavenly Father would even allow the weapon formed against us to “prosper’ but truly it is all for a purpose–nothing is by chance. Unbeknownst to us now but eventually it will all reveal itself.

We must continue to remind ourselves: God says I am. God says I will. God says trust. He has made all of these promises to us and tells us he got us and yet we still wonder what he’s going to do and when. Doesn’t sound very trustworthy huh?

It’s human nature I understand. I’ve weathered many storms, and they only seem to get harder and harder. I’ve fallen short, went backward hundreds of times, trying to be better and do better but it gets hard. During the trials, our faith is tested and we tend to become weak in the flesh. We think short-term, this moment, the here and the now, instead of harvesting more fruit for our due season. We are human, we make mistakes. The dopest part about God is that he already knows that. He already knows the child he has created and he will go through great lengths to be sure that his children are prepared. That his children have someone in their corner to protect them, to comfort them, or to remind them that they will be okay because he has already made a way.

God is more worried about the person you will be after the storm. He understands it hurts, it’s uncomfortable, it makes no sense, but in the end, he is more concerned with the product you will become. He wants you to step fully into your power and not stay in the place of comfort and ease. He can see far beyond us, and he knows more than we could ever imagine so we must continue to grow strong and mighty in his will and his way.

It’s so beautiful how our Lord doesn’t miss. How he is so perfect and his plan for our life is so perfect. How even when we think it’s a mess and nothing can be done he shows us just how purposeful our trials were meant to be. Going through the season when you doubt yourself, those slow periods of growth when nothing seems to be happening. When you are walking through the fire, thinking the smoke will never stop smoldering, the heat will never end, but one day, it just does. One day you begin to realize it’s not so hot here and you’ve adapted to the heat. Your body has transformed – now equipped to endure even more. Through the fire you refine your wings, through the fall do you learn to fly again. You learn to float through the waves. You learn to navigate through the skies.

God’s promise is there is a purpose for your journey, and you may not understand it now but you will when the time is right. It’s all in timing, trust that timing. Trust in yourself that you will be where you need to be and do what you need to be doing at the right time, not a moment sooner.

ATM Chain Profits

How many times have you pulled up to the ATM machine to take money out and thought to yourself, “If only I had a piece of THIS pie…”? What if I told you that it’s not as hard or expensive as you may think?  Everyday people, just like you and me, have the ability to create a legacy with ATM chain profits without any fancy degrees, attorneys, or thousands of dollars in capital.

In 2021, we haven’t even reached the peak of our increasing dependence and reliance on convenience and accessibility in every facet of our lives, especially banking.  If COVID has taught us anything, it’s that IF there is a will to make something work remotely, there IS a way.  From millions of dollars transferred over Al Gore’s internet, from one CEO to another,  Major international business deals conducted via Zoom and the worst shortage on bleach and toilet paper this side of the 21 Century.

ATM Chain profits is a business trend you can coast on to wealth and/or legacy building.   There’s plenty of opportunities for you to be as creative and flexible as you want with the services you offer, coupled with the businesses and locations you choose to do business with/in.   This total control allows you to create financial freedom and keeps you in complete control of how your business is run, structured, and eventually grown.

Let’s get into it.

What is an ATM Chain?

Now that you understand that owning and operating an ATM chain is possible with little to no education, background, and even money, it’s time to determine if this is the right legacy builder for you.  You won’t put 100% into something you view as an obligation or J.O.B.  You’ll understand why I say that as we talk about maintaining your legacy.

Owning an ATM Chain means you are the supplier of cash machines at public locations that you have placed there.  You make money every time someone takes out their own money from that machine, at your ATM rates. Boom!

Here’s a great article that I read from Forbes, that describes the three roles involved in a traditional ATM chain/business: You, the owner of the ATM, The business owner where you will place the machine(s), and the processor who handles the maintenance and paperwork associated with your machines, in order to keep them in servicing condition.  All three of these parties share in the fees that it takes to process each transaction.

Here’s an example:  The business owner, where you have placed the ATM, typically gets pennies on the dollar for each transaction, not more than $.75 in most cases. $.50 is the national average.  The ATM processor will have network fees that vary from processor to processor and can range from $1.50-$3.00 per transaction.

You, as the business owner, can charge anywhere from $1-$8 (by law) per transaction.  So let’s do some quick math.

You decide you want to place an ATM at my salon, Stewart Beauty & Barber Boutique.  Your ATM fee is $5.00 per transaction because my shop is in a very high-traffic area in Gahanna. I’ve negotiated $.75 as my venue fee, and the ATM processor charges $1.90 per transaction.

$5.00 – $75 – $1.90 = $2.35 pure profit for you for each transaction.  The average ATM processes approximately 180 transactions each month =$423.00 profit from your one ATM machine in my salon.  Is that going to make you rich overnight?  No

Can this type of passive income, over TIME, put you in a position to offer a better life for your family?  Absolutely.

Can you then pass those ATM machines down from generation to generation?  That’s the whole point.  We’ll meet a dad who did just that a bit later in the article.

Now that you get the idea, and at least where to begin your own due diligence, let’s move on to talk about the trends in the industry that are going to help make this so much easier for you to get started and stay competitive.

2021 ATM Industry Trends

Technology is ever-changing the way we have always managed to do the simplest of tasks. According to ResearchAndMarkets.com Global ATM Market Report for 2021, there are many trends and technological factors that affect how the ATM industry will look even 5 years from now. Old ATM machines have given way to newer models with far-reaching technology capabilities, which appeals to the younger generation.  Mobile pre-staging, video banking features, contactless transactions, and wires, all from a touchscreen, will be on the rise in 2021.

More technology means more control and personalization that you, as the ATM chain owner can offer.  Personalized messages during the holidays to boost the business of the location your machine is at. Offer a special for using the machine and display it as a thank you message.

“Thanks for using the ATM Machine located in Stewart Boutique.  Please visit the front desk to get an immediate 10% off your next visit.”

What if you had a fleet of ATM machines able to dispense foreign AND domestic currency, accept bill and car note payments, and yes, even allow customers to open an account…right from your machine.

Imagine offering this to a business that can “one-up” their competition, who doesn’t have this type of technology?  Guess who is going to call you when they find out the Jones’ have one down the street?

Eventually, ATM machines will be solar or wireless allowing them to be placed in locations and rural areas they once were not able to go.

Make sure you research each type of ATM that you want to deploy and find out if they can ever be upgraded.

Legacy Mindset

Can you see the possibilities that technology alone will provide?  Make a list of what technology features are your must-haves for expansion.

Making plans for the future is important, but let’s not forget that ideas need to be turned into action.   As I researched ways to leave my granddaughter something she could be proud of, I came across an article about William Moxley, out of Florida, who gifted his children an ATM business.  Mr. Moxley is the epitome of a legacy mindset. ( Read about his amazing story and four children here.)

What do I mean?  Having a legacy mindset is not about how much money or property you plan to accumulate.  It’s about being cognizant of all of the opportunities and resources you have available, and the leadership responsibility you have to serve others, in order to serve your own ascension.

Whew! Deep right?

I know some of you might be saying to yourself, “I’m just a single mom trying to make it”, or “I’m just a regular guy.”  While that may be true, you are also so much more. Legacy often signifies the end of something.  When in reality it is the beginning of the next phase.

So let’s get to the good part.  The profits.

Where the Money Resides

As I mentioned in the last section, the legacy mindset is about recognizing opportunity.  While some of you may be discouraged at the immediate ROI (Return on Investment) with ATM machines, think of the longer picture.  Being able to build an ATM chain with hundreds of machines across your state, and pass it down generation upon generation, along with the tools it takes to do, even more, is what it’s all about.

Let’s talk about how much ATM Machines cost and most importantly where the money is going to come from to load it.

Depending on if you buy the machine new or used, and what features you want to start out with.  You can get a machine for as little as $1,000 – $10,000.  It depends on how much money you have to invest and how fancy you want to be out the gate.

If you don’t load your machine enough, then people stop using it.  If you have money to invest and you put too much in and nobody uses it, then you run the risk of tying up capital you can be used elsewhere.

Here’s a little industry secret I learned along the way.   You do not have to use your own cash to load the machine!

IT’s called ATM vaulting.   I’m not going to get into a lot of detail here, as I work with clients one on one to help them navigate the process. The thing to keep in mind is there is a cost associated with this.  For a fee, there are companies who will load their money into your machine, monitor it to make sure it never stays too full or too low, secure transportation of your money, and allow you to focus on running your business.

Start Up Checklist to ATM Profits

Are you excited yet? I know it only took me a few days of research to realize this was a great opportunity that would allow me to serve my family, while serving others.  Legacy mindset!

Here is a 7 step quick start-up checklist.  This is not all-inclusive. Each of these can be researched individually on your own, but this gives you an idea of what to research, and where to start.

Step 1:  Decide your business type

Step 2:  Get an EIN

Step 3: Create a name for your business, check availability & register it

Step 4:  Determine your location(s)

Step 5:  Get your permit and licenses

Step 6:  Find a Vaulter

Step 7:  Open a business bank account

You are going to need to obtain insurance, create a marketing plan, reach out to businesses, etc.  Do your research and if you need help, I offer assistance one on one.

I’ve given you a LOT of information to consider and do further investigation on.  Below I’ve given you some homework that we will discuss in our Legacy builder group on Clubhouse. It’s a support network of individuals all across the country.  (Clubhouse is audio only).

Homework

ATM Chain Profits

  1. Pick a business name
  2. Determine how many machines you can afford to start out with
  3. Research different ATM machines and how they function
  4. Be sure to join me on all social media platforms in my bio, and especially on Clubhouse @advanceskindiva. The 3rd Wednesday of the month we discuss these legacy topics, resources, homework and provide a safe place of support and encouragement.

ATM Chain profits are a passive income business opportunity.  There is still hard work involved.  However; it is flexible and there’s not much time commitment involved, especially if you outsource vaulting the machine.  This is an extremely low-stress business that even, as Mr. Moxley proved, a kid can run.  You can even do this while working your regular 9-5.  As you begin to formulate relationships with business owners, you will learn to nurture them over longer periods of time.  Do not get upset if things don’t happen in a first conversation.

As long as you are willing to be flexible, it will happen.   You can expect to earn $150 on the low side per month to $500 on the high side per month, per machine.  Take that and triple it across town and you are well on your way to building a legacy with ATM chain profits.  Good luck!

Darnika Platt: When Men and Spa Collab

Darnika “Nika” Platt is a lifelong entrepreneur and Atlanta tastemaker. As a 35-year-old businesswoman, she manages her life as a business owner, wife, mother, pet owner, and socialite.

Nika considers herself to be a small-town girl with big city goals. She was born in Benton Harbor, Michigan, and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She left for Atlanta, Georgia in 2004 to expand her life in a new market.

A tax preparer since high school, Nika learned how to do taxes and run a business from her parents and grandparents, who not only owned a tax services business but also a flower shop. She was able to take what she learned from her family and her time at Grand Rapids Community College to begin her own entrepreneurial journey. After leaving Grand Rapids and moving to Atlanta, she built a tax services business, with clients that still use her services today.

While in Atlanta, Nika was not only able to successfully expand her life as an entrepreneur but she also met her husband of six years with whom she shares two children. The couple would go on to build a logistics company together. In addition to that, they also built Future Leaders In Training which is a non-profit business that is designed for at-risk youth.

During her regularly scheduled visits to the nail salon and day spas, Nika began to converse with some of the men who also frequented the same establishments. These conversations made her realize that men don’t have access to the same facilities that women have, including a one-stop-shop for self-care.

Combining her love for pampering herself with her deep interest in self-care for the mind, body, and soul, she began visualizing the concept of a mancave, which is synonymous with a male-driven space where guys can relax.

In 2017, Nika began the process of building out her vision for what is now known as ManCave Atlanta. ManCave Atlanta was inspired by the television show “Cheers,” where everyone knows your name, and is an upscale men’s spa and event facility located in the Lindbergh neighborhood of Atlanta’s luxurious Buckhead District.

The physical build-out was completed within a year. Among other features, the facility houses multiple suites, including:

  • manicure and pedicure
  • massage and facial
  • a private barbershop

Nika’s vision is now a reality, one that has amazed every person who has entered the space. Making her the woman who knows exactly what males want and need.

We had the pleasure of catching back up with Nika to discuss more about Man Cave Atlanta, and what’s next for her future in entrepreneurship.

Nika you are truly a genius when it comes to the spa game. Man Cave Atlanta opened in December 2020, during a pandemic and it was genius to do so. What exactly is Man Cave Atlanta?

ManCave Atlanta is an upscale men’s spa that offers massage, manicure, pedicure, esthetician, and barber services. We also have a business and sports lounge for members to work or relax while viewing television and partaking in food and beverages. Additionally, there’s a cigar lounge.
Honestly, it’s full-service facility for men to relax and enjoy themselves. I wanted to provide self-care services for men but my research showed me that they wanted so much more. So, if I wanted to be successful, I had to deliver.

Man Cave Atlanta did not happen overnight. It took about three years to come to fruition. What advice do you have for entrepreneurs who feel like everything has to happen now?

I would say that to take your time and do your research. I’m was an entrepreneur before Man Cave Atlanta but I had no idea about the spa services industry and also I’m a woman so what do I know about what men want and how to market to them. But I did my research, a lot of research. Also, it’s important to make sure that you can secure the capital before moving forward. Our facility looks like it costed a lot of money and it did. No corners were cut, and I went through a lot to get the facility to the standard it is today.

We all have something we pride ourselves in as entrepreneurs. What’s your favorite service offered at Man Cave Atlanta and why?

I love the manicure and pedicure services. That’s the best part about owning a spa, I don’t have to go anywhere else unless I really want a design. But if I need just a basic clear coat or a solid color, I can bring it in for our nail techs to apply.

You and your husband are truly couple goals as you build your family legacy. The non-profit, Future Leaders in Training , definitely caught my eye. Let our readers know more about that and how they can help.

We’ve been blessed enough to both be our own bosses and accumulate a lot of money separately, so it’s only right that we give back to the next generation. So, Future Leaders in Training takes all of the lessons that we’ve learned in business and provides training to youth so they don’t make the same mistakes that us or other entrepreneurs have made.

As a wife, mother and entrepreneur what gems can you drop to help others with the same responsibilities to assist them with juggling everything?

Don’t be hard on yourself. There’s no such thing as the perfect balance. As a mother and a business owner I have a responsibility to both my child and my business. Some days I chose my child over my business, other days my child might have to wait because momma has to handle business. I do my best, but I know at times I may make the wrong choice or I might miss out on something.

However, at the end of the day my daughter is well taken care and knows that I love her. Also, she knows that majority of the time I’m at all of her basketball games and I’m there to pick her up from every practice.

What does a typical day look like for you?

That’s a very hard question, because I don’t have typical days. Most days I’m in Man Cave Atlanta doing some type of administrative work or checking in on everything. I don’t check just emails or watch my staff work, I greet guests, handle party requests, I can be on the phone with the city, and you might even catch me sweeping the floor.
I’m also in the process of building out a new location so everyday is different with that. And then, I have to make sure that I know which days my daughter has practice or which days she has a game. Thank goodness for great staff because I know I couldn’t do it all by myself.

How do you practice your own self-care as you make sure everyone else is good?

I am the self-care queen. That’s how I got into the spa/self-care business. I always make sure I pamper myself with spas, manicures, pedicures, massages, and facials. If it involves self-care I’m there. So actually, I was able to turn my passion for self-care into a business. And it’s unique because it caters to men. But men and women are welcome to enjoy our spa services.

Lastly, as a serial entrepreneur you’re never done with visions. What’s the next vision in the making for you?

We’re working on a new location in Atlanta, but I can’t give a way any details just yet. We’re keeping it mostly a secret but we’re further along than most people would think. That’s all I’m saying.

Advocating Through Strategic Planning, Entrepreneur and Boss Babe Gives Solutions one Creation at a time!

Patrice: How are you an advocate for other people who aren’t advocates for themselves? Could you explain that for the readers?

Nancy: Oftentimes, people who are underserved or in unfortunate situations tend to accept their current experience. Sometimes fear, mindset or acceptance is what holds people back from creating the change they want to see. I’ve always been the person who intervened for those people to create change in their lives.

Patrice: You have been creating and designing new programs to help other people’s business grow. What techniques or strategies do you offer to business owners of that nature?

Nancy: A big part of my process is strategic planning where I push business owners to think long term (5-10yrs out). I then have them backwards plan their impact & income. It’s a very interesting exercise that helps business owners put their vision into reality and action. When you are planned up you realize that 18 months is not a lot of time.

Patrice: What does being an entrepreneur mean to you?

Nancy: To me, being an entrepreneur is about creating innovative solutions to serve others. Entrepreneurship is about solving problems. When you solve problems for humanity you will certainly have a product or service that can withstand the test if time.

Patrice: What is the name of your business and how can it help other people in communities all over?

Nancy: Strategic Solutions LLC is a Business Literacy consulting firm. Our mission is to support small businesses and get the entrepreneurial skills they need to have a business that has longevity.

Patrice: Tell us more about the Blac Model and what was the motivation behind creating this?

Nancy: Strategic Solutions LLC is a Business Literacy consulting firm. I developed the BLAC Model framework in response to the financial and business literacy gaps in our system. I haven’t met a business owner who doesn’t want to build longevity and make income; Our BLAC Model ensures that longevity & financial success happens within business.

Patrice: To you, what does a pretty woman who hustles mean to you?

Nancy: To me, pretty woman hustle is about disrupting the current narrative. People often associate being a pretty woman with being helpless, or a person who has a man take care of her. Being a pretty woman who hustles is all about celebrating all the beautiful women who know how to get their own bag!

Patrice: Are there any projects you are currently working on for the remainder of the year?

Nancy: I have a major project coming up. This October we are facilitating a Global LeadHERship Retreat in Lagos Nigeria where we will have a 6 -day experience learning to reimagine our vision and unlock the barriers on our minds. The Last day on October 18th we will have a LeadHership Expo to discuss the importance of LeadHership. This event will be streamed live and we are hoping to have a Global audience of up to 3,000 people. To register and learn more about the LeadHership Expo go to WWW.StrategicSolutionsLLC.org

Patrice: For new business owners who are still struggling with their business and gaining consistent clientele, what advice do you have for them?

Nancy: Focus on building the brand and connecting with your target audience. People just don’t buy products or services; they buy into stories. When your story resonates and connects with your audience you’ll see an increase in clientele. Always remember to be consistent. Building a business brand takes time, have fun, be consistent and learn while doing it.

Sip and Share With CEO Nicole Kearney

Whether you’re a long-time wine lover or new wine, Sip and Share Wines has something for everyone. And what makes them unique? Sip & Share Wines, headquartered in Indianapolis, is a Black-woman-owned boutique winery that produces handcrafted vegan wines. Nicole, founder, creator, and winemaker of Sip & Share wanted to create a wine community and brand that catered to the overlooked and underrepresented by the wine industry.
As a vintner, Nicole is only .01% of Black women winemakers in the industry. She is changing the narrative behind wine, including the release of her newest wine Culture Cans breaking the stigma around canned wines. She is a hands-on creator, working behind the scenes daily to create delicious wines that almost any wine lover will enjoy.

We had the pleasure of talking with Nicole to dig deep into her passion for wine and what her plans are for the future of Sip & Shares Wines.

When did you discover your love for wine?

I was exposed to wine at a young age when I lived in Germany (my dad is a retired veteran). My true appreciation for wine started in my late 30’s.

Can you give us four words to describe the perfect wine?

Whatever wine you like. Each person has a different palate, so the perfect wine is the one that best suits their taste.

What experience do you hope women take away from Sip and Share Wines?

We want women to feel affirmed, inspired, and be their best selves.

What are three lessons you’ve learned thus far in the wine industry?

  • The industry is controlled by older, white men who promote others like them to the exclusion of diversity and inclusion.
  • The Black and Brown diversity of the wine industry is the now and future.
  • The wine industry laws are archaic and desperately need to be updated to reflect the current times.  There are changes being made but there is still a ways to go.

What is next for you and your company?

We’re expanding our retail presence across the country. Our wines are available in stores in Brooklyn, NY and Inglewoood, CA. We’re working on our mobile wine lounge that should debut this fall.

What is your go-to wine from your collection for fall and winter?

Ruby Red Dessert Wine (Port-like) that’s released on Halloween and starts pre-ordering October 1st. It’s a limited-edition wine.

What is your definition of a Pretty Woman Who Hustles?

She sets intentions and puts in the work to manifest her dreams. A woman who goes after what she desires. One who doesn’t dim her light or play small to make others feel comfortable.

Also, we have begun cultivating our community garden in which we provide produce, teach cooking classes and educate the community on gardening.

In 2022, we will bring back our conferences that focus on boys and girls between the ages of 6 years old to 18 years old. Each conference is a day full of workshops, team-building activities, catered lunch, and opportunities for the youth to meet adults who can be their mentors. Moreover, our parent conference is an opportunity to pour into our parents and provide them with tools to grow as well. We understand that we must invest in a person’s whole self in order to help them to strive in their daily lives.

Last, our Business Development sector will focus on youth entrepreneurship classes and masterclasses for business owners. Shavée Ho: The Pretty Powerhouse helping women develop their own personal brands

Daring, industrious, and caring are just a few words to describe serial entrepreneur, Shavée Ho.

At just 5-years-old, Shavée unknowingly styled her very first braid on one of her dolls. Soon thereafter, she advanced her skills to include an at-home “oil treatment” using Vaseline on her first client: her late grandmother, Gammie. It came as no surprise when Shavée followed her passion for making others feel beautiful into a successful career in cosmetology.

As Shavée progressed in her career, she simultaneously expressed her creativity through the canvases of her many clients faces, and hair.

Ms. Ho used her knowledge to debut her Beauty company, S.H.E Beauty Defined, in mid 2019. In addition to being an entrepreneur; she is an published author, certified image consultant, certified life coach, and a licensed cosmetologist for over a decade. Her passion is to help women see their true reflection by giving them a makeover from the inside out; fusing therapy and beauty to control mental health.

Her most prized accomplishments is becoming a wife and mother, so she understands for many like her, time is precious. This drove her to create S.H.E, a brand that represents your everyday awesome woman.

We had the opportunity to dig deep and ask ask a few questions to The Pretty Powerhouse Shavée Ho.

Out of all the industries in the world, why beauty?

Everyone has a gift, and it’s our job to service and help those you can with the gift you’ve been blessed with. My gift happens to fall under beauty. I have a passion and talent for enhancing a person’s image and it truly makes me feel great to see a person’s confidence come alive. My goal is to impact as many people as possible without even meeting them. Through S.H.E Beauty Defined, I will make that happen.

You are the proud owner of “S.H.E. Beauty Defined” what is your definition of beauty?

Beauty is a perspective and a mindset. Once you accept all of your perceived flaws, that’s true beauty.

What message do you hope women take away from your chair?

Any client I work with, I reassure them that I’ve only enhanced what they already have. You already are the person you wish to become.

As an entrepreneur, Author, image consultant and so much more: how do you balance life and business?

This is a hard one, and I’m learning and growing every day.

My Husband Tommy Ho is my mentor, financial advisor, bestie, and life -+b//qpartner all rolled into one! Our tag-team parenting game is strong and he is such a huge help in every aspect of my life.

One other thing that has helped me is I started saying no more and created boundaries to protect my physical and mental health.

What does self-care currently look like for you?

My “Glam -Time is my Self-care time. Putting on lipstick or oiling my scalp is Therapeutic and healthy to me.

What is next for you and your brand?

Being active in the community is very important to me, so events, pop-ups, and community service, are our top priority at the moment.

What has been your greatest lesson this far in entrepreneurship?

There is no perfect way to do things, trying to be flawless will slow you down. It’s through the flaws that you build a stronger business, so just go for it.

What is your definition of a pretty woman who hustles?

A confident woman who never quits and finds beauty in failure because she knows they’re only lessons.

Go to hair product:

Not to toot my own horn but my Straight Forward Flatiron Mist is my favorite! It’s moisturizing, leaves a non-greasy lightweight shine, and it’s great for my extensions and natural hair!

Favorite hairstyle?

I honestly do not have one. I consider myself an artist and I love all hairstyles. Personally, I’ve grown my hair, colored it, cut it, all in the same week.

Hair Inspiration?

Beyoncé, I love that her hair is a staple in her branding. Having a signature look as an entrepreneur is important.

If you could do anyone’s hair in the world, who would it be?

Beyoncé or Mama Tina Knowles. We’re best friends, they just haven’t met me yet.

Andre’ Hammonds Lands Acting Role Alongside Michael Colyar

Meet Creative Director and Fashion Stylist Andre’ Hammonds.

Andre’ Hammonds remains booked and busy making his debut on the big screen in his new acting role “Unconventional” alongside Michael Colyar. You may also be familiar with his work as a guest judge on The Shade Room’s digital series, “The Shady Brunch”, and “The Look: All-Stars”, a show that offers head-to-toe makeover competitions and features two teams of beauty and fashion experts.

When not working, Hammonds continues to give back and make an impact in his community by hosting
an annual fashion show “Slay the Runway ” in which the proceeds are given to a cancer foundation, in
honor and memory of his mother. Mr. Hammonds took his time out to catch up with us about his
upcoming new movie role and drop some gems about men in fashion and his slow rise to the top.

1. How did you get this amazing new role in this movie? Did you ever dream of being on the big screen? What is this moment like for you?

I was super excited about the opportunity to be featured in the film “Unconventional”, which was directed and produced by Denise Khumalo. After meeting Denise at a networking event in LA we connected through social media where she was able to see some of my work as a multi-media personality and fashion stylist. She reached out to me about sharing my story for a documentary she was working on. I was so happy and honored to be a part of it! Never did I imagine that I would be participating in an award-winning documentary that would showcase at multiple film festivals. The experience has truly been humbling. I’m thankful.

2. What inspired you to choose fashion as your calling? How have you paved your pathway to success?

Fashion and entertainment have always been a part of my life. From my childhood and teenage years, it was an outlet. I decided to study fashion merchandising in college while working in retail management. I started modeling locally and those were the true beginning stages of my career in entertainment. I attribute a lot of my success to some of the early moments in my career. They helped me to see and understand where I wanted to see myself in the business of entertainment.

3. What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned throughout your rise to fame?

I don’t know that I have reached a true level of fame, and truthfully it makes me kind of uncomfortable when others around me use the term. I do think that the level of notoriety I have achieved gives me a space to connect with the people who support me. I’m always humbled to know that through the work I have done in front of and behind the cameras has inspired others to want to do the same. So I guess ultimately what I learned is that people are always watching.

4. What is your definition of a man who hustles? What advice do you have for other men who aspire to get into the fashion industry?

My definition of a man who hustles is a man that is continually working towards elevation through achieving their goals. The beauty of being a hustler is that you grow along the way. My advice to men who want to be in fashion is to have a point of view! Have a new perspective of sharing something with your audience. Travel, read, eat, laugh, talk, listen, then take all those things and share your view of fashion. It gives your work a voice.

5. What do you want your legacy to be remembered for?

Right now I hope that I can continue to build my legacy. I’m still learning, growing and achieving, so at this moment I’m not sure what my legacy would be. I do hope that people that have shared time and space will feel motivated to continue in their journeys. I believe in showing up, in my life and the lives of others. I believe we owe it to ourselves to show up.

Thank you Mr. Andre’ Hammonds, and much success to you and your continued endeavors.

JB: What are some obstacles and victories that you have experienced while be an entrepreneur?

TG: As an entrepreneur when loves doing hair and who has a passion for helping women look their best, my best victory was in beauty school when a young lady came in and she wanted a wig. I was able to construct a wig that was similar to the hairstyle that she would wear prior to treatment. The look on her face was priceless and let me know that this was something that I wanted to do for the rest of my life. Each time I meet a customer or do a client’s hair I get a satisfying feeling that I have some how made a difference in their life and added a touch of confidence to them. I really love what I do and the lives that I get to touch.

JB: How were you able to pivot during the 2020 pandemic?

TG: COVID-19 came through and just took over, nobody saw any of this coming. So many small businesses were forced to close their doors and online stores were forced to find ways to gain new customers and keep our current customers. It was truly something different. However, because social media is a great source for us to get the word out, post information about sales and new products that are emerging, we had to stretch our creative visions to keep busy. Our influencers keep audiences entertained by using our products in demonstrations. I kept up on education classes and techniques for stylist to register and gain more knowledge.

JB:How are you approaching business post 2020 mentally?

TG: While 2020 was very challenging because of COVID-19 my goal is to keep pushing and continue creating. I am motivated to continue sharing and growing my business by being innovative. Online sells were still pumping throughout the pandemic as people where still getting wigs and even some people became creative and started making wigs. Woman became invested in taking care of their hair so our growth products were definitely essential. So, post pandemic I’m positive and ready to take on more. I’m educating myself more and educating stylists on product usage on training in different areas of cosmetology.
