She’s Pretty and Black Owned: Sheena

Founder and CEO Sheena is a registered nurse that spent over ten years caring for individuals in settings that ranged from in-home to the ICU. After losing several family members and witnessing shocking things taking place in the world of conventional healthcare, she decided to step away, regroup, and rethink the direction in which her career was going. Over the next year, Sista Rootz Herbal Blendz was born.

What inspired the start of ” Sista Rootz Herbal Blendz”?
Sista Rootz initially was a seed that was planted when I began exploring natural alternatives to get some relief for my oldest daughter who has had severe eczema and allergies for most of her life. I was tired of having the same surface conversations with physicians that were stuck on autopilot. It always leads to the same answers and the same medications with no progress.

What has been the biggest challenge of running a brand like “Sista Rootz Herbal Blendz “?
The biggest challenge has been trying to get people to see that they can take autonomy over their health and lives and that what we now call “alternative medicine” or “complementary therapies” are actually the original methods of treatment and healing. It is my goal to help as many people as possible free themselves from the prison of chronic illness and prescription medication. I believe that emergency medicine is necessary for life-saving and under extreme circumstances life sustaining however the vast majority of all healthcare is directed to the area of chronic
disease, associated complications, and inevitable massive costs that subsequently result from it all.

How does “Sista Rootz Herbal Blendz “impact the community?
Sista Rootz impacts the community by giving a community of people that have extremely limited resources and alternatives a chance to make a choice for themselves. Most of my clients come to me because they are tired of not being listened to and receiving the same answers. They are tired of feeling sick, tired, and hopeless. Sista Rootz offers another option and better outcomes.

Where do you hope to see your brand in the next 3-5 years?
I hope to see Sista Rootz as a common household name with a reputation that precedes itself. I want people to see my business as a safe option that is synonymous with quality, compassion, and genuine care.

What advice do you have for the next generation of entrepreneurs?
My advice to the next generation of entrepreneurs would be to believe in yourself and your product. No matter what that is! Push for you and your business as hard as you need to until the people know your name!

What does being “Pretty and Black Owned” mean to you?
For me being “Pretty and Black Owned” means showing up unapologetically and unequivocally as yourself. Recognizing that NO ONE can do what you can is the prettiest thing ever !!
