Oh, my journey in the fabulous world of staffing and recruiting is nothing short of exciting! Imagine me back then, wide-eyed and eager, diving into the HR realm, working as an HR recruiter for Fortune 500 retailers and a private security company. I witnessed the lack of emphasis on employee retention, and the untapped potential of qualified candidates often set aside due to unconscious biases or inadequate recruitment training.
That sparked a fire within me to create meaningful connections, to uplift overlooked talent, and help guide businesses toward greater success, leaving no stone unturned and advocating for diversity and equal opportunities. So, here I am today, leading HJ Staffing on a mission to bring people and opportunities together, transforming the HR world in a spirited, progressive, and compassionate harmony.
As the President and CEO of Harris-Jones Staffing & Recruiting, LLC, what inspired you to establish the company, and what values drive your approach to staffing solutions?
I established HJ Staffing to bridge the disconnect I saw in talent acquisition – a gap between untapped potential, the overlooked candidate, and businesses in need of that very talent. Our inherent values such as integrity, personalized service, and creating enduring relationships underline our unique approach. We genuinely care about retention and development, ensuring our partnerships, whether with job seekers or businesses, are tailored and enduring.

In the world of staffing and recruiting, a spectacular instance springs to mind when you mention navigating challenges. This was the gold-standard experience of what it means to pull together, proving that relationships, in their truest essence, fuel our collective success.
We inked a major work order that demanded staffing 50 individuals within a tight window of 72 hours – somewhat akin to playing a high-stakes chess game against time, with the welfare of our clients and candidates on the line.
Now crucial to our mission was our sisterhood with other powerhouses, female-led staffing agencies that we’ve nurtured over time. With the clock ticking relentlessly, I reached out to our partner agencies, asking for their support.
Did we meet the request? Yes indeed! Not just with associates simply fulfilling that work order, but reporting ready for work. The triumph of that moment crystallizes one essential truth – it was our invaluable relationship with these agencies, their shared vision and commitment, that transformed an uphill assignment into a realized goal.
The experience reinforced the significance of cultivating robust, sincere relationships in our domain. As we celebrate each victory and learn from each challenge, we build bridges, not walls, paving the way for symbiotic success and setting new benchmarks in the staffing world. Together, we rise!
Can you share an instance where you had to pivot or adjust your approach due to industry shifts?
Adapting, the cornerstone of success, is something we’re no strangers to. During the rise of remote work, many clients refining their hiring processes, particularly for roles traditionally on-site. Instead of resisting this shift, we embraced new digital interviewing platforms and remote onboarding processes, while educating our clients about the possibilities of remote work and hybrid schedules. This ability to pivot ensured our clients continued to attract top-tier talent even amidst sweeping changes.
What advice do you have for aspiring leaders in the HR and staffing domain who aim to make a significant impact in their careers?
To the aspirants wishing to make a sizable impact, remember the HR and staffing industry, at its core, is about people.
