Confidence in Christ: Walking Boldly in Faith

Let’s talk about the word, “confidence.” Webster’s dictionary defines the word, confidence as “the quality or state of being certain.” Another definition is “a firm belief.” In either case, confidence is a very powerful word & is multiplied far beyond measure, when we allow it to arise in us.

Some may call confidence that ugly word called “pride.” Confidence, arrogance or pride may have similar characteristics. But let’s be enlightened on the subject. Although there may be a resemblance to each word, what makes the difference is the spirit & heart behind the word, “confidence.” Our spirit tells the “why” behind what we do.

A right heart, meaning, a pure motive or intention, will produce a Godly confidence! We start our journey as believers by confessing our faith in Christ. This is a very sensitive & humbling moment. It is probably the most powerful moment you or I will ever have in our lives. I’m almost certain that Christ not only wanted us to receive salvation through our faith in Him, but I believe, along with that, He wanted us to have confidence in receiving that salvation.

Proverbs 3:26 states, For the Lord will be your confidence & will keep your foot from being caught. This verse of scripture lets us know that the Lord will be something that you & I both need. He says, He will be our confidence. It’s not our bank accounts, our significant other’s or our careers that will be our confidence, but it is Christ. 2 Timothy 1:7 says that God has not given us a spirit of fear but one of power, love, and self discipline. Notice, it says the word ONE. Could it be that power, love and self-discipline are all ONE spirit? All working as one to help establish our confidence in Christ. Children walk in confidence every day, and they don’t even know it. They ask their parents for things, not in hope but in confidence that they will receive what it is they ask for. That is why they throw fits when they don’t receive what it is that they have asked for because they were…confident that the answer would be yes. This is the kind of confidence that we as believers should have in Christ. As a believer, we need to walk each day knowing that God will complete the work that He has already begun in us. Our faith in God will help us to live day by day in the confidence of Him.

Needless to say that it would be pointless to receive salvation without deciding to walk in confidence daily. Be confident that God is a very present help in a time of your trouble.  God wants His children to walk in the sureness that He will be there to complete us. He made us and knows all about our struggles. He knows when we are unsure of ourselves and when we condemn ourselves. God is aware that we will sometimes get stuck in a place, but He is there to remind us that yes, we are still His children. Confidence in Christ should not be abused as a license to sin and live an ungodly, undisciplined lifestyle. But instead, it should be recognized as a gift from God. A gift that God wants us to walk freely in, knowing He will finish what He started in us. Jeremiah 29:11 states,

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. And this is why we should walk in our confidence because of God’s Word, and He is His Word. His Word will not return unto Him void. So, He will not return unto Himself void because He is His Word. The confidence and hope we have in God, take it and walk in it. It is your precious gift from Him, Blessings.
