SUZANNE DUNN JEWELRY is a Black-woman-owned fine jewelry brand dedicated to transforming personal stories into modern heirlooms. Every piece is designed with intention—where beauty is visible at the surface, but purpose is always the foundation.

Beyond jewelry, the brand’s mission extends into mentorship, youth jewelry education, and the development of a workforce initiative focused on creating training and employment pathways for women who have faced significant life adversity.

What inspired the start of Suzanne Dunn Jewelry?
Suzanne Dunn Jewelry was born from a commission from God during one of the most vulnerable seasons of my life. My three young sons and I were sleeping on the floor of a basement, navigating homelessness and uncertainty. In that space, God gave me a vision to create beauty rooted in purpose, not as an escape from hardship, but as a response to it. Jewelry became a tangible act of faith and obedience: a way to testify that even in the midst of survival, God can birth a legacy.

What has been the biggest challenge of running a brand like Suzanne Dunn Jewelry?
The hardest part has been building a luxury brand in the midst of deep personal scarcity. While living at a shelter, pursuing my Graduate Gemologist certification, and raising my sons, I sometimes wondered if I could keep going. Yet every day I chose excellence, even when my own resources were threadbare. Trusting in the vision meant battling fear with discipline and perseverance. This crucible of hardship molded the integrity and soul of the brand.

How does Suzanne Dunn Jewelry impact its local community?
Community impact is at the heart of our mission. Suzanne Dunn Jewelry commits 10% of all sales to giving back. We partner with nonprofit organizations to address tangible needs, restore dignity, and provide care to communities.

Most recently, we partnered with Destiny Helpers Outreach to organize and collect relief supplies for communities in Jamaica affected by Hurricane Melissa. In late 2024, we partnered with Destiny Helpers Outreach to provide Thanksgiving meals, children’s clothing, and toys to over 300 families in the Crown Heights, Brooklyn community. Later that same year, we collaborated again to host a Winter Wonderland event for over 200 families in the Ocean Hill, Brooklyn community, providing hot meals, children’s holiday gifts, and clothing.

In addition, Suzanne Dunn Jewelry partners with the National Diaper Bank Network and the Alliance for Period Supplies to support women and families experiencing insecurity by providing essential hygiene products. We have also provided hot meals to neighbors in need across various Brooklyn communities. Our mission is not only to create beautiful jewelry, but to be present where care and compassion are needed most.

How can women in particular benefit from what your brand has to offer?
Suzanne Dunn Jewelry exists to affirm women, especially those who have walked through hardship, that their story matters. Our pieces are designed to mark moments of faith, healing, transition, and becoming. Women don’t just purchase jewelry; they experience being seen, honored, and reminded that they are worthy of beauty, ownership, and legacy.

Where do you hope to see your brand in the next 3–5 years?
In the next 3–5 years, I envision Suzanne Dunn Jewelry expanding its everyday luxury collections while deepening its custom heirloom work. Beyond growth, I see the brand fully established as a platform for training, employing, and empowering women, particularly those rebuilding their lives after adversity. Success for us will continue to be measured by both impact and integrity.

What advice do you have for the next generation of entrepreneurs?
Build with purpose, not just profit. Don’t rush your process or minimize your story; some of your greatest qualifications will come from what you survived. Stay obedient to the vision, even when the path feels unclear, and trust that consistency, faith, and integrity will always produce fruit in time.

What does being “Pretty and Black Owned” mean to you?
Being “Pretty and Black Owned” means carrying beauty with depth. It means excellence rooted in identity, creativity grounded in faith, and success built on purpose. It reflects our belief in beauty at the surface, purpose at the foundation — honoring where we come from while building something that blesses others.
