What inspired the start of “My Queen Kisses “?
Queen Kisses was inspired in part by my need for another stream of income in my household, and also in part by my spouse, who would remind me how smart I was (am) to create something i could call my own, instead of continuing to give my time away at a possible 2nd job. While figuring out what i was good at, i noticed the ongoing issue of dry lips in the dental office I worked at, and wanted to find a way to treat the lips in an all natural way.
What has been the biggest challenge of running a brand like ” My Queen Kisses “?
My biggest challenge has been obtaining funding and navigating social platforms efficiently. Lots of brick walls against minority business owners. Grants are ideal, but hard to obtain. Social media is ever-changing, and paying for ads often does not yield the return you need.
How does ” My Queen Kisses ” impact its local community?
My brand has a big impact on my local community. I serve as one of the many examples regarding ‘the spirit of Black Wall Street’ with my resilience and commitment to being an example of what can be accomplished with persistence and steady seeking ways to grow.
How can women in particular benefit from what your brand has to offer?
Women can benefit from what my brand offers through consistent self-care and positivity! Our lips help to manifest the world around us, and learning not to speak negatively of ourselves or what we’re going through is something that can help our mental health tremendously.
Where do you hope to see your brand in the next 3-5 years?
In the next 3-5 years, I hope to see my brand in large retail, also on billboards. In the purses of your favorite celebs and on magazine covers! I’ve got global aspirations for my brand and will leave an amazing legacy behind for my children!
What advice do you have for the next generation of entrepreneurs?
For the next generation of entrepreneurs, my advice would be to never stop believing in yourself and surround yourself with those who you want to become in your own future. Don’t be afraid of ‘those rooms’, a lot of the people in them aren’t even as qualified as you are Lol. Also, do mindful networking, and often.
What does being “Pretty and Black Owned” mean to you?
Being pretty & black-owned means being a trustworthy, dignified business owner that would make my ancestors proud if they could step into the present.
