Dr. Dacia Russell Goman is a dual board-certified physician in Emergency Medicine and Obesity Medicine, and the founder of Apex Metabolic, where she combines clinical expertise with a practical, stigma-free approach to metabolic care. She also serves in emergency medicine leadership, working on healthcare quality, operational strategy, physician performance, and patient-centered system improvement—bringing a systems mindset to prevention, long-term wellness, and better patient experiences.

Q: You’ve built a career across medicine, law, and public policy—what’s the through line?
Dr. Russell Goman: I’ve always been interested in how systems shape outcomes. Medicine allows you to care for individuals, but law and public policy help you understand the structures that influence healthcare access, quality, and decision-making at scale.

Q: What inspired you to launch Apex Metabolic in the first place?
Dr. Russell Goman: Apex Metabolic grew out of seeing how many patients struggled with weight and metabolic health despite working incredibly hard.

Q: What did you notice about the way patients were interpreting their struggles?
Dr. Russell Goman: I saw intelligent, motivated people blaming themselves when the reality was much more complex, biology, environment, stress, sleep, hormones, nutrition, and modern lifestyle all play major roles.

Q: How do you describe your overall mission through Apex Metabolic?
Dr. Russell Goman: I wanted to create a science-based, compassionate approach that helps people understand their metabolism and build sustainable health rather than chasing quick fixes or shame-driven messaging.

Q: Who do you connect with most through this work?
Dr. Russell Goman: The people I connect with most are busy professionals — especially women in midlife — who feel overwhelmed by conflicting health advice and frustrated that traditional approaches haven’t worked long term.

Q: What are those patients really looking for?
Dr. Russell Goman: They’re looking for evidence-based guidance that is realistic, sustainable, and respectful of the realities of modern life.
