UnCovering You with Nikki G (Podcast) is the taboo provocateur featuring discussions in “the gray area” that people avoid talking about [at least publicly], but a lot of people dwell in; they just don’t want anyone else to know about it. Moreover, UnCovering You with Nikki G (Podcast) provides a non-judgmental space for those who want to learn more and understand more. Nikki G ensures guests and audience members know who they are, what they do or may feel is not necessarily abnormal although it may not be accepted as a social norm.

What made you choose this type of business?

SOUL PURPOSE & PASSION

What hurdles did you personally face in getting ready to open your business and how did you overcome them?

The sexology component of my business was misconstrued via individuals’ self-projections and misunderstandings. What I initially encountered (not all the time, but enough) was that people believe you are as they are. So, if sex is a salacious or dirty topic to them, they will try to make it a salacious association to you regardless of one’s professional credentials, superior academic performance (I earned a 3.9/4.0 GPA) and stellar client reviews. Sexology is an academic field of study, a science, that requires an advanced (graduate) degree in which I earned over a decade ago. I also believe my “physical attractiveness” was made fantastical in the minds of many as my “beauty” was used as a tool by others to attempt to discredit and hypersexualize my appearance and services. The profound quote by the great Audre Lorde best captures what I experienced and how I proceeded in response to attacks as well as other individuals ‘mis-imagine’ of me…. “If I didn’t define myself for myself, I would be crunched into other people’s fantasies for me and eaten alive.” I refused their lie of me and proceeded in the direction of my soul purpose, training, credentials and expertise. Nicole R. Goode, M.A. Sociologist and Sexologist (Master Teacher) NOTE: A sociologist teaches the science of society, societal systems, structures and organizations, social institutions and relationships as well as collective and individual human behaviors. A sexologist teaches the science of human sexuality, which includes sexual interests, behaviors, functions and relationships. Sexology tends to utilize several other academic fields in analysis, synthesis and presentation of information. I am a teacher of both Sociology and Sexology. And, my teachings are scientifically-based.

Does your company help the community where it is located?

Nicole R. Goode, M.A.’s School of Sexology offers partial scholarship opportunities.

Why did you choose entrepreneurship?

To ensure the full use and complete maximization of my vast knowledge and expertise in the way most needed by our society.

What would you say is your most driving motivation to keep doing what you to do?

My unwavering love for and commitment to people of African descent throughout the diaspora. SOUL PURPOSE and PASSION. Remember, The Passion of The Christ? That’s what it is for me when is comes to what America calls BLACK and BROWN PEOPLE. It is not so much about what I want to do, but what I must do and it fuels my entire being. My driving motivation will not end as it is derived from that which is eternal. I AM that I AM. Thy will be done.

Have you ever turned down a client?

I have not turned down a client that made it beyond my assistant’s initial screening. All divisions of N.R. Goode, LLC have a client screening and intake process. Nicole R. Goode, M.A.’s School of Sexology virtual courses are open to anyone who enrolls and pays the tuition for the course. The scholarship process is highly selective and not everyone that applies is awarded with funding.

What are the goals you most want to accomplish in your business? What are the goals that you hold personally?

My business goal is to educate, liberate, heal and empower each and every soul that is involved with and/or participates in any of the services offered by N.R. Goode Enterprises LLC. And, I hold this primary goal personally and purposefully.

Did you have any key mentors or people who deeply influenced who you are, what you believe in and what you’re committed to in your work and life? Tell me about them.

As far as teachings, writings and/or people’s lives who deeply influenced me, I would say: Dr. W.E.B Du Bois, Malcolm X, Dr. Angela Davis, Fred Hampton, Dr. Huey P. Newton, Marcus Garvey, Dr. Anna Julia Cooper, Ida B. Wells, bell hooks, Professor Ivan van Sertima, Cheikh Anta Diop, Dr. Kimberle’ Crenshaw, Dr. John Henrik Clark, Mwalimu Baruti, Thorstein Veblen, Pierre Bourdieu, Karl Marx, Jean Baudrillard, Guy Debord, Paulo Freire, Maulana Karenga, Dr. Carter G. Woodson, Dr. Amos Wilson, Marva Collins, Dr. Frances Cress Welsing, Marimba Ani, Dr. Joy DeGruy, James Baldwin, Franz Fanon, Emile Durkheim, Carl Jung, George Herbert Mead and Dr. Patricia Hill Collins. All of these profound souls, whether they have transcended or are still here with us on Earth, have contributed to my understanding of the world and the systems in which I exist, the historicity of African descendants, what we need and what must be done. Educators who actually taught me such as Dr. Michael Bennett, Dr. Brenda Hoke and Dr. Karen Young were tremendously instrumental in honing my intellectual capacities and ability to critically think as well as apply knowledge to positively impact communities and nations of people without compromising my authenticity, my message, or my people.

If you had one piece of advice to someone just starting out, what would it be?

They always say it is impossible until it is done. Their impossible has nothing to do with you. If you cannot stand being misunderstood, controversial or negatively talked about, then the ground you are standing on (your sense of self) will crumble. Stand firm and all the way up in you. Be a JUGGERNAUT.

What’s next for you in your business/brand? What can readers look forward to from you?
