We had the unique opportunity of sitting down with Alvin to discuss the inspiration behind his music, his life challenges, and what is to come for his career. 

What was the inspiration behind your latest single, “Til I get back to You”?

In 2022, I took some time to refresh and reflect so that I could discover the next move for my music career. During that time, I was able to find a fresh new sound and vibe. In this song, I wanted to capture the feeling of being locked away from someone or something you love, and the song turned out beautifully.

What challenges did you have to overcome to get where you are today?

As a music entrepreneur, I’ve had to overcome the same challenges that most successful business owners face: lack of capital, lack of other people’s belief in your dream, lack of access, and more. I had to continue finding ways to stay in the game long enough for my vision to take shape. In the music business, people don’t jump on a sitting train…they all want to get on board once it’s moving. I had to find a way to make it move.

What has been the most rewarding part of your journey?

My greatest reward has been to see the impact that my music has made on my fans and listeners. I had to go through a lot to make sure that my music was heard, but the testimonies have made it all worthwhile.

If you could tribute your career to one person or thing, who would be and why?

I’d have to give my parents credit for teaching me how to be a man of faith and persistence. I know you said “one person,” but they always tell me they are one…so I have to give them both credit for their influence and guidance.

What tips do you have for aspiring artists looking to break into the music industry?

Every artist should embrace their own journey. Too many people try and replicate someone else’s story, and that is not advisable. Find your voice, your sound, and your story…and stick to it.

What does success look like for you?

To me, success is achieved when you begin the journey…not at the end of the road. I find success each time I conceive a new idea, hear a new song concept, or start a new venture. I believe that accomplishments are inevitable if you keep moving.

What is next for you?

“‘ Til I Get Back To You” is the lead single for my upcoming album, SFTY (Safety), and I am continuing to push and prepare for this next phase of my career.

What is your definition of a Man who hustles?

To me, the hustle is about going the extra mile when everyone else expects you to stop. It’s about waking up early enough to visualize your day before you get after it. A man who hustles is a man who is focused and energized by his purpose…and the pursuit of his goals should reflect his commitment to that purpose.
