Sante Grace: Where Sustainable Luxury Meets Curvy Couture

Sante Grace, the sustainable luxury plus size brand for the curvy connoisseur, has solved this sweaty situation with an entire range of opulent outfits, such as their famous Bias Cut Bamboo Slip Dress, Flightsuits, and Linen Sack Dress.

And the woman on the go will be glad to hear that there’s no need to look anywhere else for accessories, handbags, or even shoes! Sante Grace has literally got you covered from head to toe.

Known for “accessible high fashion”, Sante Grace is inspired by the design houses we all love, such as Westwood, YSL, and Gucci, and they use decadent, lush fabrics such as cashmeres, silk charmeuse, and silk chiffons. Their garments are designed by plus size women who know exactly what struggles their clients are dealing with and how to create styles that hug and flatter curves in all the right places.

But Sante Grace is about so much more than just fashion. Their dedication to sustainability is evident in every decision that they make. Founder and head designer, Tracy Christian, emphatically asks, “What’s the point of creating my dream wardrobe if I’ve got to kill the earth to get it? Let’s make a change in the fashion industry. Sante Grace designs are made using only sustainable fabrics and are produced in Los Angeles, where company headquarters are located, to further reduce our carbon footprint.

We had the pleasure of sitting down with Sante Grace Founder Tracy Christian to discuss her start into the fashion world, her creativity and her current fall must haves:

Tell us about your brand Sante Grace?

Sante Grace is accessible luxury plus size clothing line.

What made you want to start your own fashion line?

I’ve always wanted to have my own clothing line. I loved clothes but hated shopping. I’ve been considered “plus” since I was 16 years old and wanted to experiment with different looks and styles but couldn’t because the looks weren’t commercially available so I began sewing.

If you could use three words to describe your platform, what would it be and why?

Downtown Sexy Luxe.

Do you have any tips for upcoming entrepreneurs looking to join the fashion industry?

Fashion is a business as well as an art. Hell, business is an art. I would encourage them to study business, marketing, as much as they study design. I find it fun to find ways to be fiscally responsible while still realizing my designs.

What is next for you in entrepreneurship?

Scale. I’m looking forward to scaling Sante Grace. We started online and now we’re being carried by several stores and online portals. We want to find new ways to serve our client.

What is your definition of a Pretty Woman Who Hustles?

It’s a woman living to her fullest. We have such a limited time, go out and create the life you desire.

What are your current fashion must-haves?

Shell toes – Adidas shell toes are the most versatile, comfortable sneakers in the universe. I’ve worn them hiking and to Oscar parties (not the same pair).

A good cross body bag. I have all the statement bags. I end up putting too much stuff in my Neverfull, I’m so precious with my quilted Chanel – I was going to buy the YSL crossbody camera bag but the strap wasn’t long enough. I worked with an American brand called Swatzell and Heilig that produces quiet luxury handbags. They came up with the Soho bag and it’s perfect. Leather, all the right colors, and a metal strap that fits my body.

Caftan – At Sante Grace we make the perfect silk caftans. Sometimes I pile on the jewelry for a really contemporary look. Other times with a hat when I want to feel French. Over silk joggers for work. There’s no limit to the ways to wear a caftan and I love each and every one of them!
.

As we prepare for Fall, what does the perfect look consist of?

We’re having very odd weather in S. California. One day is over 100 degrees then the next day the temperature is in the 50s, raining and we’re being told to prepare for a hurricane. For Fall it’s all about being comfortable, confident, and being temperature appropriate. I’m rocking our Light Sleeper sets. It’s totally the way I want to be seen in the world. A light sleeper is based on pajamas; made from a luxe fabric, great pattern, extremely easy and confident. The cut is generous enough that if I gain or lose a few pounds I still look good. And the fabrics (silk) are formal enough that the set takes me from grocery shopping to client meetings. Silk has the ability to both breath as well as insulate so it’s the perfect fabric for this crazy weather.
