Felicia Baxley – Just Write It!

A four-time author, Felicia is redirecting her writing path to embrace the genre she really enjoys. After having written two Christian lifestyles and a self help book to encourage entrepreneurs to build their own empires; she is now debuting her first Thriller.

Felicia is originally from Milledgeville, GA and has been writing since she was in elementary school. Her writing has not only helped her manage her own mental health struggles, but she helps others tell their story as well. Having written her first three books, she found a passion in helping others get their stories out in the world, sharing their testimonies and struggles. Felicia started Hustle Write Publication LLC in 2021 where she not only publishes her own fiction, but also offers ghostwriting services for those who aren’t confident in their own ability to put their words together on paper.

Through her business, she offers ghostwriting, mini coaching sessions, and shares information through a blog that encourages writers to build multiple income streams with their work.

Felicia has written the works she felt she needed to help people look into themselves, now she is excited to be writing for the purpose of entertainment. Her debut thriller, Behind the Blue Elevator releases April 2021. She hopes that it not only entertains, but paves the way for her to further help others.

. Felicia, your background is impeccable as an author. You’ve written books for Christian lifestyle, as well as self help books. Now you are shifting gears! What made you want to write a thriller?

I’ve written stories and fiction since I was in elementary school. My mind turns a little different than some people and my desire to write the type of things I like to read has always been there. My first few books I feel were more of something I NEEDED to do, and now that I’ve shared that information, I can focus on what I WANT to do, which is write thrillers and suspense.

Behind the Blue Elevator, is to be released in April 2021.  Reading the preface of your newest thriller I definitely wanted to know more.  What can you tell us about this new thriller without giving us all the tea?

According to my editor, it has many layers. I don’t even know if that was my intent :). But yeah, Behind the Blue Elevator presents a company so stressful to work for that the CEO goes the extra mile in every area to ensure stress relievers are available for everyone. Among one of these options is a Suicide Elevator. The story pretty much follows the elevator operators recollection of this job and his own psyche the more he worked there. Of course there are a few twists and turns to look forward to.

Hustle Write Publication LLC is your newest project. As a fellow Ghostwriter, can you share with our readers what fuels your fire to help others to get their stories told?

After sharing my first few books, I came to realize that everyone has some strt of story to tell, and someone out there who needs to hear it. I know that not everyone is confident that they can effectively portray their testimony in words, which is why I offer writing services. I want to help people get their stories to the individuals that need it, and help them create a passive source of income.

Now that we are claiming “Bestseller” and “Best Thriller” for Behind the Blue Elevator, what things do you have in the works?

I’m definitely working on the plot and twists for my next thriller. “The Watchtower.” I’ve been putting more effort into Behind the Blue Elevator to get released and taking a break from writing for a bit, but I’m excited to work on the next project and determine when I’ll release it.

Lastly Felicia, what advice do you have for someone who is waiting on the right moment to tell their story?

The moment is now. Your life is ever changing and ever evolving. You’ll always have new things to share. The right moment is the moment you start moving forward with your project. The best thing about it being your story, you can always set it up to add to later.

What is your definition of a Pretty Woman Who Hustle’s?
A Pretty Woman Who Hustle’s is a woman who takes her goals and aspirations seriously. One who does everything they can to obtain goals and reach aspirations. Facing obstacles head on and rushing past them.

Angela Marshall: A Force to Be Reckoned With

Angela Marshall, is a public speaker, professional writer, columnist, bestseller author, creative consultant, ex-NFL wife and business owner of “In Other Words, By Stone.” Her topics of expertise include but are not limited to; Converting the Downs in Life to Wins, Making Positive Plays Every Day and The Scores That Do Not Count. She teaches, enlightens and shares motivating and transparent topics encouraging struggles to strength. Angela has inspired minds to stretch and evolve across the globe. Her heart and passion to liberate, illuminate and motivate others has appropriately nick-named her “wise words woman.”

Also known as “Author Stone,” Angela is an Augusta, Ga., native, positive words powerhouse that utilizes her personal life experiences of struggle, strength, and success to captivate audiences and readers abroad. Angela resigned from twenty years in the corporate world to embrace the purpose that has pursued her throughout life – to be unmasked, unchained and untamed. She struggled through a lavish but sorely lacking lifestyle as a former NFL wife. That chapter in her life produced the transparency in her inspiring inquiring minds want to know auto-biography, ‘Reality to Rags to Riches; The Story and Life of an Ex-NFL Wife.” Angela has graced influential platforms across the globe and is also a featured author in the “Women Who Lead” anthology that chronicles successful women across the globe.

Angela you are a woman with many talents! Motivational Speaker, Author, Ghostwriter just to name a few. Which of these platforms give you the most gratification and why?

Being a positive influence through words is my greatest attribute- I share struggles and successes to impact others to live vicariously through themselves. When on the outside looking into the lives of others, you can’t see everything that’s in their frame.

You were previously married to a NFL player and you speak about your struggles. What one piece of advice can you give other women who are aspiring to marry professional athletes?

Every person and experience is different. Not all of my journey in that lifestyle was negative. Just make sure you know who you are, what you stand for and don’t conform or compromise to be a part of societal cookie-cutter stigmas.

One of your books, “Reality to Rags to Riches – The Story and Life of an Ex-NFL Wife” is your autobiography. If you could pitch this book in one word, what would it be and why?

S.E.L.F (Shine, Evolve, Love & Fulfill)-  The acronym encompasses everything I had to make a priority in my life in order to become the person I am today. I had to stop allowing others to dim my light. I had to grow. I had to love myself before I could love others. I had to live a fulfilling life.

“Sentiments by Stone” is so very engaging and felt very personal when I went through them. What inspires you when you’re writing?

Telling the truth sets you free- I want to be free and I desire to help others be free.Words are so powerful. My goal is to engage the reader with hopes of inciting them to grow, sow and glow in their lives.

The name “In Others Words by Stone” resonates so much for me and it feels personal as well. I literally feel like so many women’s stories are a fit for this name. What prompted you to choose this name for your business?

I had several people coming to me for advice, suggestions and ideas- one of my tag lines to them would always be “so in other words” and we would continue the conversation. I decided that when writing speeches, books, materials for others, I would be using MY words to help them deliver desired results. That is how I birthed the business name. Stone is my maiden name that I added for additional uniqueness.

What is next for you?

Adapting to the pandemic has increased the need for virtual appearances (podcasts, radio, etc.) I will continue to share my journey and expand business opportunities. I’m also working on my fourth book. As long as there is breath in me, I will be using my platform and skills to help others to “Get off the bench and get in the game of life!”

Photo by Liza Summer on Pexels.com

Marketing and creating a presence for any new business is essential for attracting new clientele and expanding your brand. Every new business undergoes the growing pains of learning the dos and don’ts and maneuvering daily tasks. Trying to stand out from the crowd and promote yourself can be stressful and oftentimes repetitive. With so much on your to do list, you’ve got to work smarter not harder and get the help you need. Sometimes you wish you had a personal assistant or whole team behind you to aid with these tasks, but it’s okay to start small. Take some stress and tasks off your to do lists by opting for FREE online tools that work for you.

I recommend checking out a few online tools that have been found helpful in showcasing your growing your business:

Canva– Canva is a user friendly platform that allows you to be your own design team. Canva has the ability to create posters, flyers, and video ads/posts specifically formatted for your socials. Not only are you able to create your own designs with their easy to use templates, but you are able to download and share them directly onto your platforms. The best part, it’s free!

Disclaimer: Canva does offer a PRO option that allows access to more images and templates, but just starting out, the free version is more than enough! Slow and steady wins the race.

Mailchimp– Email blasts are a great way to market your business and stay connected to your clientele. Mailchimp offers email campaign templates which can be filled out and formatted; it’s easy to use! Mailchimp also offers formatted contact forms and subscription boxes that you’re able to place on your website or send out, in which clients are able to input their information into the form. Once filled out, that information auto populates on your Mailchimp platform. With that information, you are able to send out the email campaigns you created to each client on your contact list.

Disclaimer: There is a contact limit when first starting out, so as your business grows to over 2,000 contacts, Mailchimp recommends upgrading to their paid subscription platform, which provides more services to you. For start up companies, I believe Mailchimp’s free mail campaign access is a great start.

Hootsuite– Social media marketing is one of the biggest and most effective ways of bringing awareness to your brand. Hootsuite is like having a social media manager right at your fingertips. With the free version, you are able to link up to 3 social media accounts and schedule social media posts onto the 3 platforms of your choice. It’s fast, efficient, and you don’t have to constantly remember to get on your phone and post on each domain. You’re able to schedule specific time and dates for the posts and interact with your followers all in one easy to use place.

Disclaimer: There is a paid feature on this platform that does allow you to connect to more platforms and do more, but if you regularly post content on social media, this online tool is a must-have and the free version definitely lightens the load.

StreamYard– If you produce live videos and communicate to your clientele via online streaming, then StreamYard is your friend! With the use of StreamYard you are able to broadcast your live videos onto multiple sites all at once. Now you can stream on Youtube, Facebook Live, LinkedIn and more by linking your socials together onto StreamYard.  You are also able to chat to others and have live interviews all with the push of a button. Super easy, super convenient, and very efficient way to connect to a larger number of people all at once.

Disclaimer: Streamyard does place their logo onto your videos, which you can pay to remove and replace with your own. Also opting for their paid version allows you to connect with more participants in a video call and record the live streaming, so depending on your use or need there is room for more with their paid options but of course, for starters Streamyards free version is quite useful.

Alignable– Network Network Network! Alignable is a website and a mobile phone app that allows you to connect with small businesses in your area. It provides you exposure to other small businesses where you are able to connect and offer services to one another. By connecting, sharing, and providing great feedback, not only are you growing your exposure with other small businesses in your area, but you are also creating a rapport for your brand that can go a long way.

Disclaimer: You must be willing to put yourself out there and reach out to others. Taking lead is key when using this site, but it will be of good use once the ball starts rolling and you put yourself out there and make use out of the resources it provides.

Women’s History Month Feature – Rasheedah Thomas

For Women’s History Month I will be sharing the stories that define and provide examples of women empowerment, uplifting stories of personal triumph and businesses that are inspiring and are making a difference for women. Women’s History Month is a declared month each year that highlights the contributions of women to events in history and contemporary society.

I want to introduce you to Rasheedah Thomas.

Rasheedah Thomas co-founded RC Communications, a DC-based strategic communications firm, in 2014. She advises a diverse group of clients on strategic communications, media relations, and branding strategies. Rasheedah is passionate about women in positions of power, and loves helping women business and government leaders define their brand and raise their profile. She is also a highly sought-after commentator for US and international media where she shares her expertise and analysis of US and international affairs, women’s issues, and personal and corporate branding. Prior to co-founding RC Communications, Rasheedah worked in fundraising and donor relations at National Public Radio. For over a decade, she raised an average of $2-3M a year and created strategic stewardship plans for NPR’s corporate, foundation, and individual donors. She worked closely with NPR’s CEO and other executive management, as well as with major stations and Trustees of the NPR Foundation. As a board member of the Women’s Congressional Staff Foundation, Rasheedah works to not only increase staff diversity on the Hill, but create a pipeline to foster more diversity in Hill leadership positions. An advocate of more women in elected office, she is a Certified National Trainer for VoteRunLead and the national spokesperson for Protecting Our Vote PAC. She is a member of Washington Women in Public Relations and was selected to join Politico’s Women Rule advisory group as one of its first members. Rasheedah was named to the 2020 list of Influential African American Women on LinkedIn. She is a proud native South Carolinian and alumna of Howard University.

Here is HERstory:

After working for 11 years in fundraising and donor communications at National Public Radio, I co founded RC Communications. I’m the woman you hire if you either are in a crisis, or are ready to raise your profile and brand yourself as an expert.

Her business is RC Communications.

What does women empowerment mean to you?

I’m a huge advocate for women in positions of power. I want women to feel empowered, even if they aren’t yet where they want to be. For example: are you a mother? You are responsible for incubating life and expanding young minds. How powerful is that?!

What advice or words of inspiration would you like to share with someone?

One of my favorite quotes by Maya Angelou: “I love to see a young girl go out and grab the world by the lapels. Life’s a bitch. You’ve got to go out and kick ass.”

What do you want your legacy to be?

I want to create six figure jobs for Black women so they can create wealth for themselves and their families.

What inspires you?

I’m inspired by women who life their lives on their own terms, support other women, and remember their struggles enough to try to make sure others don’t have to have the same struggles.

What kind of impact do you want to have on those around you?

I hope people witness my success and see that as confirmation that they, too can be successful. And I want to always take time to give advice or an encouraging word to a woman on her success journey.

What does self care mean to you?

Saying no. Not only is it necessary, it is empowering.

What obstacles have you overcome or hurdles did you personally face and how did you overcome them?

Year Three of our business was rough. Our traditional client pool dried up and I contemplated going back to a 9 to 5 job. Instead, we pivoted to government contracts. It was an onerous process, but very much worth it. We got to add some amazing clients and projects to our roster which helped us with later successes.

When did you realize entrepreneurship was right for you?

I was never good at taking orders from others! LOL Also, my father always had his own practice and always emphasized that business ownership was THE path to success.

Why did you choose entrepreneurship?

Corporate America is a toxic place for Black women. The stress takes its toll on our mental and physical health. Besides that, I wanted to feel empowered every day over my own destiny. That’s what entrepreneurship gives me.

What would you say is your most driving motivation to keep doing what you to do?

To make my ancestors proud.

What are you most excited or passionate about? (In both business and life or both)

I’m excited that I get to use my platform to empower other women, both in my work in the firm and outside. As a board member of the Women’s Congressional Staff Foundation, I help create a pipeline of the next leaders on Capitol Hill. As the the National Spokesperson for Protecting our Vote PAC, I helped create campaigns to defeat Donald Trump, educate the electorate, and help Black candidates get elected. Strategic communications is what I’m good at and I’m blessed to use my skills to uplift others.

What are the goals you most want to accomplish in your business and personally?

I want to create a successful seven figure business not just for my own financial gain, but so I can employ six figure Black women. Creating opportunity and wealth for others will be my legacy.

Did you have any key mentors or people who deeply influenced who you are, what you believe in and what you’re committed to in your work and life? Tell me about them.

My parents always told me that I could do anything. They probably regretted that later in life when they wanted me to go a more traditional career route. But they are proud of me now!

Did you have any life-changing experiences that put you on the path that led you to be doing what you’re doing today? Tell me about them.

In February 2014, I found myself seated in a conference room with my boss, her boss, and an HR representative. I was told they our department was restructuring and offered a chance to apply (apply!) for a more junior position or take a severance. I’ve never made a decision more quickly. And that day, as I made my way home, I promised myself that I would never again put myself in the vulnerable position where someone else had that much power over me and my livelihood. And I’ve kept that promise to myself. Clients come and sometimes go, but NO ONE has that kind of power over me and never will again.

What’s next for you in your business? What can readers look forward to from you?

We hear from people all the time that they would love to retain our services, but can’t afford it. In particular, new small businesses who don’t yet have big budgets for comms. The pandemic has only made those cries louder. To that end, we recently created a private Facebook community – The Communicators Network – where we provide free webinar trainings and resources. We will train on things like executive presence, media training, how to look great on Zoom, and the best ways to brand yourself as an expert in your field. I’m really excited about it and we’ve gotten great feedback already!

Women’s History Month Feature – Jae Monique

For Women’s History Month I will be sharing the stories that define and provide examples of women empowerment, uplifting stories of personal triumph and businesses that are inspiring and are making a difference for women. Women’s History Month is a declared month each year that highlights the contributions of women to events in history and contemporary society.

I want to introduce you to Jae Monique.

Jae Monique is a co-owner of Pitch Vault Media, a PR company located in Central Florida. She is also co-owner/co-creator of Pvmmagazine.com and On Repeat—a new streaming music video channel on Roku and Amazon Fire TV. Additionally, she is a co-host on the Reality Intercepted podcast and former co-host on The Bossman Show. Prior to becoming a PR professional, she began her career as a contributor for online media outlets such as Examiner.com, AXS.com, The Hype Magazine, and other online media outlets. Throughout that time, she has interviewed numerous entertainment professionals, public figures, and celebrities. As a host on Reality Intercepted, she (along with her co-host) is unfiltered when it comes to sharing her opinions on national news, social injustices, and the mistreatment of others. As a publicist, Jae has worked with music professionals, public figures, authors, and non-profits. Her can-do, “can’t stop” personality and will to persevere has led her to navigate through the worldwide COVID pandemic and the birth of her baby son.

Here is HERstory:

I am originally from Bronx, NY and I currently reside in Florida. I am a mother of three, including a 6-month old. As a media professional, I started off as a contributor for Examiner.com where I covered entertainment and celebrities. It was the Examiner.com platform that led me to conducting interviews and landing other writing opportunities. I have written for several media outlets, including AXS.com, thehypemagazine.com, Therichest.com, and others. Eventually, I became a publicist and started wearing both hats. I was receiving media pitches while doing the pitching. I started off working with music professionals and then branched out to representing other brands. Some time later, I co-created Pvmmagazine.com, Reality Intercepted Podcast, and On Repeat.

Her businesses are Pitch Vault Media, On Repeat is a new streaming music video channel, PVM Magazine.

What does women empowerment mean to you?

To me, women’s empowerment means having confidence to you what you want to do and being determined to get it done. It’s going after our dreams and pushing through the advertisites that come our way. Women’s empowerment also means uplifting other women, standing up for each other, and uniting.

What advice or words of inspiration would you like to share with someone?

Be yourself and put what others may think of you to the side. Speak your dreams into existence.

What inspires you?

I’m inspired by those who are kind to others. I’m also inspired by those who have beat the odds that were stacked against them.

What kind of impact do you want to have on those around you?

I want to show people that they can overcome adversities. I had many turbulent times come my way that I didn’t even know I would be in the position I am today.

Have you authored any books?

Yes. I wrote a book a long time ago called “Chronicles of a Cheater.”

What obstacles have you overcome or hurdles did you personally face and how did you overcome them?

I have been the target of slander, backstabbing, lies, false accusations, belittlement, and hatred. There were friends that I helped that that turned into enemies. I was told throughout my life that I was worthless, stupid, and wouldn’t amount to anything. There were times when I didn’t have a dime to my name. I had low self-esteem so I believed the negative words that were said to me over time. To overcome, I leaned on God and prayed. I had a few people who were in my corner to help me build up my confidence and self-esteem, including a mentor. Through my mentor, I learned that I was not any of those things that people said to me. I became mentally stronger and my confidence grew. She helped me in so many ways. I was able to realize what my true talents were, and that the friends who turned into enemies were never really my friends.

Why did you choose entrepreneurship?

I’m not a person who likes to be micromanaged. I don’t like being told when to clock in, when to go on break, or when to clock out. Those jobs aren’t meant for me and never worked out in the long-run. While entrepreneurship can involve long, tedious hours, at least I’m on my own time for the betterment of my own business.

What’s next for you in your business/brand? What can readers look forward to from you?

Pitch Vault Media is expanding to include more marketing services and increase partnerships. Reality Intercepted just came back from hiatus and will be doing more podcasts and interviews. On Repeat will continue expanding its music video playlist.
