Living as a Light: Let Your Shine Sparkle, Girl!

You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”* — Matthew 5:14-16 —

Ladies, can we talk about the glow-up for a minute? No, not the one that involves contouring and highlighter (though, respect to that skill). I’m talking about the glow that comes from living as a light in this world—the kind of glow that doesn’t come off with a makeup wipe and doesn’t fade when the day is done. This is your God-given radiance, and it’s time to let it shine!

You’ve Got the Glow First things first:
You were made to shine. We’re not talking about a dim little nightlight in the corner; we’re talking full-on, dazzling, can’t-be-ignored, beacon-of-hope brightness! Matthew 5:14-16 says you are the light of the world. That’s right, YOU! So why are you playing small, hiding that brilliance under a bushel? Girl, it’s time to take off the lampshade and let the world see what God put in you.

Shine Bright—But Don’t Blind People Here’s the thing about light:
It’s meant to illuminate, not irritate. Ever been in a room with those harsh, fluorescent bulbs? Yeah, no one likes those. Your light should draw people in, not make them wish they had sunglasses. Let your kindness, love, and compassion shine so brightly that people are naturally drawn to you—just like moths to a flame, but in a good way. You don’t need to be perfect (newsflash: none of us are). You just need to be real, showing the world how God’s love transforms us into the best versions of ourselves. That’s the kind of light that people need—one that’s warm, welcoming, and real.

Let Your Light Shine, Even on Your Off Days:
Let’s be honest—some days, we feel like a 100-watt bulb, and other days, we’re barely flickering. Life happens. But guess what? Even on your dimmest days, your light still matters. It’s not about being on all the time; it’s about being consistent. When you’re rooted in God’s love, your light shines even when you feel like you’re running on empty. And here’s a little secret: Sometimes, your light shines the brightest when you’re just being yourself—messy bun, yoga pants, and all. Your authenticity is part of what makes your light so unique.

Light Up the World, One Step at a Time:
You might be thinking, “But how can I light up the whole world?” Here’s the good news: You don’t have to. Just focus on your little corner. Shine where you are—whether it’s in your family, workplace, church, or community. Your small acts of love and kindness have a ripple effect, spreading light far beyond what you can see. Hold the door open for someone, send an encouraging text, or smile at a stranger. These might seem like small things, but in a dark world, even the smallest light can make a huge difference.

A Final Word:
You’re Not Alone Remember, you’re not the only light out there. We’re all in this together, a whole city on a hill, shining for the world to see. So when your light starts to flicker, reach out to your sisters in Christ for encouragement. We’re here to remind you that your light is needed, that it’s valuable, and that it’s making a difference.

So go ahead, girl—shine bright. Shine like the city on a hill you were meant to be. Let your light be the reason someone else finds their way home. And if anyone ever tells you to tone it down, just smile and say, “Sorry, I’m living as a light—it’s what I was born to do.” Keep glowing, keep growing, and let your light shine!
