As the mother of two, one of which she had as a teen mom, she enjoys taking family vacations, spending quality time with her daughters and showing them that with hard work, faith, and determination – nothing is impossible.

Who is Whit Devereaux?

I am a multi-passionate woman who refuses to be boxed in. I am a mother of two beautiful daughters; I’ve been a mother since I was 18 years old. While being a mother has been my absolute joy, I am more than that. I am a survivor turned advocate who writes and hosts classes and events through my books and nonprofits, teaching abuse prevention and recovery tools. I am an award-winning author and have written a total of 5 books to date. I am intentional about the way I choose to lead my life. I am a firm believer that we must maximize the time we have now; this very moment because it’s all that we know we have for sure.

What inspired your start in writing?

Writing has always been the outlet to my soul. I had a very vivid imagination that transcended through my short stories and poems as a child. When I was 5 years old, I was molested and silenced by shame. I didn’t feel safe speaking about it, but I could write and make the characters feel my pain. The first time I shared my writing was on Grandparent’s Day at my elementary school and the short poem was entitled, “Kids.” I was shy, but it was something about my writings that made me feel bold and confident when sharing. From there, I joined the school newspaper called “Calvary’s Voice” which I named, and got to collaborate with other students on weekly news updates. I knew early on that I had a gift with words. My mother affirmed this and my best friend bought me a journal in high school where I enclosed very personal writings detailing my struggles with depression, drinking, and abuse. I went to college for a semester for Journalism at Columbia College Chicago before having to drop out due to being pregnant and financially unable to pay for classes. I kept writing throughout my life experiences in a blog and finally put my writings together in my novel, “Not By My Own” in 2017. That book won an award in 2018 and is still one of my most transformational stories.

You are an author of several books, if you could sum up your message in a few words, what would it be?

The message is clear: “We overcome by the words of our testimony and by the blood of the lamb.” Simply put, I survived so I could teach others how to thrive beyond their circumstances. My faith is a big part of my story and I share it in a non-threatening way that readers both young and old can relate to.

What tips do you have for teens beginning to date?

February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month. The number one tip I share with teens is to love yourself first. Take your time dating and if someone mistreats you do not stick around hoping to change them. Learn who you are and what you enjoy. If I could tell my teenage self anything it would be to go to school and not abort your life dreams for another person. I have a blog on my website that specifically speaks to teens and their parents as well entitled, “Overcoming Teen Dating Violence.”

What is next for you and your brand in 2022?

2022 is all about living intentionally. In September 2021, I suffered a tragic loss and went on a sabbatical at the end of the year. During that time, I did some soul searching and the clarity that I gained led me to do something every day that makes my heart smile. That meant shifting my focus back to full-time domestic violence advocacy and writing. My readers can look forward to more blog posts that will help them overcome what has been a transitional period for most of us during this pandemic. My mentees and community can look forward to a retreat and additional outreach opportunities that focus on abuse prevention and recovery after abuse.

“Impressionable. Stylish & Inspiring : How Indira “Indi” Felder is Making Waves”

With a calling to uplift others, Indira ”Indi” Felder is making her mark in the industry of women. With a story similar to others, this New York native has overcome an early life of hardships and set herself on a course through the entrepreneurial world. From starting Beauties With Brains, her first women’s empowerment organization in 2017; Beauties With Brains Hair, a luxury hair extensions company in 2019; writing ebooks and resources for her audience and speaking engagements, Indi is well on her way to conquering the business world.

Navigating her way through college at North Carolina Central University, where she obtained her Bachelors in Business Marketing, she simultaneously worked in the legal field. After graduating, she continued her legal work where she often encountered hundreds of women, particularly women of color, struggling with access to prestige networks, and battling with lack of self-esteem. Indi has always been a voice of reason, a caretaker, and an open-armed resource for those that confide in her. She felt it was time to stop wasting what she believed was her lifelong purpose: to positively impact others through all aspects of life.

Starting out, Indi was consistently connecting with others in what became to be a life coach role, but she soon found it to be overwhelming as she wanted to give so much of herself to each person but was not able to equally share herself with each person. That trial birthed Beauties with Brains, which launched in 2017 with the purpose of inspiring, uplifting, and empowering women. This platform allowed Indi to connect with her audience equally on a grander scale.

Expanding her Beauties with Brains brand, Indi has launched a luxury hair collection and developed several business resources for aspiring entrepreneurs. Determined to contribute to the world, Indi has begun public speaking and offering business consulting services.

“I have a light that other people feel in my presence. I allow others to be transparent and share their story. Allowing them to remove the feeling of being ashamed because we are all living proof.” – Indira “Indi” Felder

My passion for writing began while I was completing my last degree. The dissertation for my Doctorate was a self-journey and my Dean told me to consider putting it in book form. I met Editor Lillian B. Seays and she agreed to publish my first book, “Life at 433”. The rest is history.

How would you describe your writing style?

Relaxing, Calming, and Focused. I have a huge wall calendar and my goals are placed at least 60 to 90 days out. This ensures that I don’t overwhelm myself and clap for the wins along the way. Also, on the weekends I play music do you will hear some Frank Ocean, CKay, Kid Cudi, Rihanna, Troye Sivan, and classic Motown. Music is a great motivator.

What does the creative process entail?

Research is a big part of the creative process. Being in Entertainment, there is always something or someone new. Networks, Organizations, and Publicists hire me to write a lively story for their audience. So, I’ve got to be good, quick, efficient, and error-free. Once it’s published — it’s in the world. Plus, be adaptable. Oftentimes, a client may change the dates and times of an event, you cannot get upset. Adjust what you can and knock it out of the park!

If you could sum up the message of all three of your books into one message, what would it be?

Always believe in your GIFTS! Never compare your success to someone else and remind yourself that no matter how difficult, you can do anything. Personally, my Affirmation is key each day. I use my last name: MOSE – Moving Obstacles Slowly Everyday

Where do you hope to see your work in the next 3-5 years?

I’m humbled at the rooms and major A-List Stars that are in contact with me. It’s such a gift. I’d really love to be an Entertainment Correspondent on a major broadcast company.

What message do you have for the next generation of writers?

Have a clear message when you send your work to people. They should not have too many questions if you are concise and your story hits all the key points.

What is your definition of a Pretty Woman Who Hustles?

A Pretty Woman Who Hustles does not depend on her looks to ascertain success. She is qualified, prepared, and sound in her work.

A Recipe for Success with The “Childcare Guru” Tiffany Ford

Tiffany Ford is a dynamic visionary, entrepreneur, consultant, and child development expert who has earned the name “The Childcare Guru ” for her extraordinary work to assist families in urban communities to guide their children towards social and academic success. A native of Philadelphia, Tiffany has worked passionately in the fields of childcare and education for more than 15 years.

She is the owner of Little Leaders Learning Academy, co-owner of Stages Community School, and the founder of Leaders and Legends Performing Arts Academy, which teaches Jazz, Modern Dance, Ballet, Tap, Drama, Karate and vocal classes in southwest Philadelphia. Her curriculums have been proven to improve self-expression, regulation skills, confidence, and academic performance for children and young adults.

As a consultant, Tiffany focuses on training aspiring entrepreneurs in the childcare and youth education fields to start and scale their schools and youth centers. Recognizing the importance of the arts and creativity to the learning process of youth, she plans to grow her programs across the nation, including expanding her performing arts academy.

We had the unique opportunity to sit down with “The Childcare Guru” herself to discuss her inspiration and start into the industry.

What inspired your start in the Childcare industry?

I started developing the desire to provide quality child care in the inner city. It was important to me to ensure that quality was at the forefront. There is a difference between quality childcare and daycare. Also, it was really important for me to develop a way to connect with our people and provide them with the necessary resources. My passion is education, so I wanted to provide that service since it is my passion.

You are known as the “Childcare Guru”, can you share 3 components that form a well-rounded child care facility?

I would say communication is number 1. In regards to the parents, your staff in your program, and your children – it is important that everyone understands your business and what you stand for.

Next is compassion. The staff, the administration, and the parents have to show compassion for one another when working together in such a close, intimate way. We must share passion all around, from all perspectives.

The third is leadership. Your child care facility must consist of leadership that supports the staff. At the same time, you must have staff that cares about the growth that you want for your company. As long as they understand the goal and their role in the company, that will translate over to the parents and to the students as well.

How has the pandemic affected the way child care centers run?

The pandemic has affected things from an enrollment standpoint, and it has changed the business approach. I believe that it is challenging for parents to trust other people with the care of their children during a pandemic. As a result, we have to make sure that the safety measures are top-notch. The way I do business now has changed. I was spread very thin due to covid, but because of technology, my business was able to grow in a way I didn’t think was possible.

What message do you hope families take away from your brand?

That parent involvement is the key with anything you do with daycare, childcare, or extracurricular activities. We promote communication between both parties. Anything the parents want from us they can get, as long as they are willing to communicate their needs and the requests are reasonable. We are more than willing to address them.

What is on the horizon for “The Childcare Guru”?

As I progress, my goal is to now develop other entrepreneurs, especially in childcare. I like to develop people…Develop entrepreneurs to create businesses that are long-lasting and will stand the test of time. I plan on speaking to larger audiences of women and entrepreneurs and motivating them to not give up and to be innovative. Also, I plan on expanding my dance studio.

How can one get started in the childcare world?

It is really important to find a mentor. When you are even considering starting a childcare business, you have to make sure that you understand how a daycare runs. Once you get that info, the next step would be to sit down and start creating your business plan. After you properly establish your business and you have your tax paperwork set up, you have to get licensed with the city, the state, and the health department.

What advice do you have for the next generation of childcare workers?

It is really key to understand that nothing starts big. It is okay to start small. Sometimes we jump the gun and we want huge success right away and we don’t want to be patient. Expect to make mistakes. When I first started out, I felt that I had something to prove to the people that said I could not do it. I was doing too much and skipping the small details. I had to learn that sometimes less is more in business and you have to be patient and go through the process the right way. When you do, the customers will appreciate it and you will ultimately see it reflected in your finances.

What is your definition of a Pretty Woman who Hustles?

Somebody who is not afraid to go after their dreams. They are willing to make the sacrifices that are necessary to be successful. My rule is “each one, teach one.” When you get into a successful position, you have to be willing to teach others and show them the way.

Getting in Alignment with your Assignment

brown wooden arrow signed

Photo by Suzy Hazelwood on Pexels.com

When you are manifesting a new vision or life for yourself, it is commonly said to write out the small steps on how to attain those goals. To write down the atomic habits that push you forward into manifesting the bigger picture. Same as prayer. What are you doing to get yourself ready for what you prayed for? What new mindsets and plans are you incorporating into your everyday life? What areas of your life are allowing God to work through?

In the new year, feelings of renewal and rebirth are swirling around. The aura of starting fresh and really sticking to a new routine are now the current trend. How are you making the moment you have the most meaningful?  We have learned that in the crisis that we are in, there really is no tomorrow and we can only live for today and hope for tomorrow. The fact that we woke up, can breathe air, are able to interact with one another. We too many times wait till the moment has passed before we reflect and appreciate what we had, or what was there.

None of us know how much time we have, but we do know that we were all placed on Earth to be a part of the assignment. We all contribute to the cycle of life and it is important we each fulfill that role in what we are called to do. Understanding your role in the bigger picture can be tricky, but pay attention. Listen close, because when we speak, He listens. When we pray, He hears us; we just have to be patient enough to wait for answers and look for the signs. Don’t avoid them when they come to us or shrug it off as a coincidence. God is a GENIUS. He knows exactly what to do and how to do it. Your life is a part of the bigger picture, and He has assigned YOU. This year is about action. No longer speaking, but doing. No longer prepping, but taking steps. Going full force at the vision He has instilled in you because He needs you to do what He has called you to do so you can fulfill your role in the bigger picture; so the world can see the goodness of His Kingdom!

As I reflect on my own life, it is crazy to see how just a thought can form into reality. How far I have come. How the image I had in my head of what life was going to be like is nothing compared to the vision He had for me, and even through all of the mess, His vision was WAY better. All my struggles and strife were part of the plan, He just needed me to believe in myself, because believing in myself is believing and trusting in Him. He will never let me down. He will never fail me. He is STILL HOLY and He will always grant me everything I need

Over the past year, in my walk with God, I have learned it is okay to ask for more. God wants to give us more, but in turn, what are you doing to prepare for more?  With more responsibility, there are more actions, more accountability, more time, and more sacrifice. He will only give more to those who are really ready and those who put in the work to receive more. So I pose the question again, what are you doing to get ready? How are you preparing for tomorrow? What actions are you living out today that will benefit you tomorrow?

Life can change in an instant, so dont get attached to temporary outcomes. It is through the highs and lows of life that God can teach us, show us, groom us. If life was always like heaven, as humans we would take advantage of such a blessing.  When we have experiences of hurt and pain, we can fully rejoice and take pleasure in a life of no sorrow. We can fully dance in the sun and be among the angels singing. We can praise His Holy Name because we KNOW the wonders and miracles Our Father in heaven can perform. We have seen it with our own eyes, and we have built a firm foundation in faith that even though we cannot see,  we KNOW He can and He will.

I dont have it all together, yet He continues to use me every day. I am fortunate that He extends such grace. So this year I am doing my part in taking the steps I need to get in alignment with my assignment!

I know the peace I have found under His wing and the victories that lie within trusting in Him. I have strayed from the herd only to find myself calling them back. He is my home, and there is no place like home.

Meet Entrepreneur Victoria G.

Victoria G. is a 23-year-old artist and interviewer based out of San Bernardino County. She is currently a college student studying Graphic Design, Animation, and Motion Graphics. She has had a very deep passion for anything art since she was a little girl. She is an independent interviewer and the owner of her own company, TeleCinephile Arts & Entertainment, where she provides various artistic services.

Who is Victoria G. in three words?

I always like to say I am an artsy, musical, binge-watcher (laughs).

What inspired your start in entrepreneurship and sharing stories?

I have been in love with the entertainment industry for as long as I can remember. I am still hunting for jobs with studios, but I felt having my own little studio would assist in me getting started while still going to school. I love how having my own company has allowed me to share my artwork with people, while still maintaining control. As for sharing stories, I grew up watching, listening to, and reading interviews of some of my favorite celebrities. I always liked how it allowed me as a fan to get to know them better beyond their work. So, when I realized I too could give this to fans, I jumped on the opportunity right away.

You have been interviewing leaders for quite some time, what has been the highlight of your journey thus far?

I feel the highlight so far has been when I became a member of the press for my first film festival. I have always watched the live streams of press junkets from film festivals, and have watched the films in selection at them. So, when I was given the opportunity to become a part of one, I couldn’t say no. My first film festival was the 2021 HollyShorts Film Festival, and since then it has opened so many doors for me. I have also been a member of the press for the 2021 San Diego International Film Festival and the 2021 Raindance Film Festival.

Where do you see your career in the next 3-5 years?

By then I would have received my Bachelor’s degree and will hopefully be working in a studio, or I will be doing freelance work under my company. I also see myself still conducting interviews with all creative types.

What message do you hope readers take away from your platform?

I hope they learn something new about these incredibly talented individuals. I personally read every interview before I publish them online, and I always love the newfound information I walk away with. I also hope it inspires them to maybe contribute to the entertainment industry as well.

What is your definition of a Pretty Woman Who Hustles?

I feel a Pretty Woman Who Hustles is one, who is constantly putting herself out there and looking for opportunities. I understand now with the way the world is with this pandemic it is difficult to take advantage of certain opportunities, but I definitely think social media is our best friend for networking in these times.

Clean your Desk – Adrian McClanahan, Chic Diva Geek shares Tips to get Organized

The second Monday in January has been designated as National Clean Your Desk Day. Start the new year off on the right foot by preparing your workspace for success by getting organized.

Tech Blogger and Network Engineer Adrian McClanahan provides the following tips to set you on the right path.

What are ways that someone can plan to declutter their desk?

You can use the little desktop paper trays, and or post it note holders. Target, Five Below, Walmart and Amazon have these, and honestly since we’re home and most things are digital…I clear out my paper piles (notes included) at the end of every week

How does cleaning up your office space help with productivity?

Cleaning up your office area, literally helps clear up your thoughts. I can’t think straight if there’s clutter all around me, or I’m scrambling to find things. So having everything in it’s place makes it easier to move through your tasks.

What are 5 must-have items that can help facilitate organization?

My Notes app on my phone, my reminder app on my phone, Post it notes to quickly jot down thoughts or notes, a storage cabinet or shelf of some kind..those are it for me honestly.
