“Meet Shaqueria Howard And How She Conquers Mom Life & Entrepreneurship”

Shaqueria Howard’s trendy media company, 5 STAH MEDIA LLC is named after her full initials (S.T.A.H).5 STAH Media prides itself on providing 5 STAR RESULTS to all of its clients. Providing digital services such as graphic design, social media marketing, content creation, image consultation, and business development. In addition, they provide entry-level professionals in this field opportunities to grow their careers.

About the CEO:

Shaqueria Howard has been working in the public relations field for over 5 years with companies like Midori Star Media Group, The Lip Bar, Slip N Slide Records, GoodGirl PR, etc. With that experience, she was able to build a trustworthy company for current and future clients. This business has always been her dream despite the doubts that crept in. Starting this business amid a pandemic she has made it her goal to provide resources for new business owners and help others complete their goals.

What is 5 STAH MEDIA LLC’s primary goal and what are you doing to ensure that goal is met?
The primary goal for 5 STAH MEDIA LLC is to provide solutions for startups. We offer services to eliminate the stressful parts of your business that can be taken care of by our business. Such as, getting the word out about you, social media graphics, graphic design, and public relations marketing strategies.

How did you know public relations and marketing was the path/niche you wanted to become successful in?
My high school yearbook class put me down the Journalism path. However, after reading more about the levels of Journalism I was sold on Public Relations. I knew I’d be successful in PR because the work became effortless. I saw a lot of my peers struggle, but my passion for this industry outstood the obstacles. As time went on, in my program internships I received many accolades but no money. That’s when I knew one day, I wanted to start my PR firm and had the recommendations to do it. I also want to fill the gap between interns and organizations to make sure students have a beneficial experience.

What are some difficulties you face juggling motherhood and entrepreneurship?
One of the major complications of being a full-time worker, fiancé, and mom is balancing it all! I have worked with this issue by building a schedule that doesn’t take me away from my family or strip me of too much of my client obligations. I have enough mommy-daughter time, fiancé time, and me time before I go to bed. Some nights are restless though and up pretty late! It’s worth it though.

What advice do you have for others trying to climb their way to success?
Just do it! Stop waiting for the perfect time because it doesn’t exist. If you know your gift, act on it now. Life is too precious to not be doing the things we love to do! The passion and love for your career will outweigh the stress that sometimes overbears us with our jobs and lives. It’s worth it to be happy getting paid for what you love to do!

Is it difficult to remain bubbly and happy during all seasons/enduring difficulties in the business? How do you bounce back from those speedbumps?
It can be difficult when you think you can handle everything on your own. Spread the wealth, and find little ways to make yourself happy. Find a sisterhood or brotherhood that supports you in times of need. Spend time with loved ones! Take 15-minute breaks and lunches just like you would at your job! Client successes always make me happy to share too, that picks me up too!

How essential was your educational background to your business?
Fingers crossed if it was not for my education at FAMU some of my public relations experience would be slim to none or what I learned from YouTube videos or webinars (those options are so broad). Having a degree in Public Relations is not necessary to be in the industry, however, each class at FAMU taught me a skill that was valuable enough for me to use either in the corporate field or freelance. FAMU even prepared us for some of the harder lessons in life when it came to Journalism and PR. Even some prerequisites helped us get ready for the real world too! I am forever grateful to my alma mater for laying the groundwork for the PR professional I have become today!

What is your favorite vacation memory?
I wish I had some fun and cool way to answer this question. I have some girl’s trips lined up this year y’all promise! My most favorite vacation memory is probably Panama City Beach with my best friends laughing uncontrollably at the beach while trying to take photos. I hold on to this memory because one of my best friends that shared this memory passed away.

Greentop Gifts Shares Diversity in the Black Community with African-American Characters

Jacquelyn Rodgers is the Founder of Greentop Gifts. Greentop Gifts started as an idea for her son and turned into a company bringing diverse products that reflect families for their own celebrations and holiday moments. Greentop Gifts has been featured in NBC News, Essence, People, and O, The Oprah Magazine. Jacquelyn is a recipient of the 2020 Visa • IFW Black Women Owned Business Grant, 2020 Wild Card Winner in the Stella Labs Women’s Fast Pitch Southeast Regional Competition and a participant in the 2020 Ad Astra Get to Even Founder Bootcamp. She has over 14 years of Consumer Packaged Goods experience at Nestle & Mars Wrigley. From this experience she has keen knowledge on how to take an idea from concept to actual product which has proved invaluable in the early stages of Greentop Gifts.

Patrice: What stuck for me while reading about your business is the name ‘Green Top Gifts’ which is unique. Could you tell us a little bit more about your motivation for creating Green Top Gifts?

Jacquelyn: Yes, I love telling the story of Greentop Gifts. It is an ode to my family. My grandfather had a restaurant bar in the 40’s/50’s which was called Greentop. It was a place of celebration for people in the black community because it was a place where people can go and enjoy the fellowship. This is how my grandfather got his start in entrepreneurship. My dad shined shoes there as a child. When we were deciding on names, we discussed it and that’s how I came up with the name.

Patrice: This is an amazing back story on how you came up with your business name! I like the fact that your grandfather owned a restaurant back in the day and that your dad shined shoes there as a child! Great memories to have! For those who don’t know, that Greentop gifts is an African-American décor and gift service and you mentioned that it features an African American character called Clarence Clause. Could you elaborate a little bit more on the character?

Jacquelyn: We launched the company with the idea of looking for black characters for the season that has a black Santa clause on it. I came to realize that it didn’t exist so I joked with my husband that I wanted to make wrapping paper and he just laughed. That made me start looking at manufacturers and illustrators and we created Clarence Clause that we wanted to appeal to children and adults.

Patrice: Now who would have thought of that idea? That is truly unique on how you moved on that idea of creating wrapping paper for black children! So, are the wrapping paper and other items that you guys sell specially sold online or are they in stores as well?

Jacquelyn: We currently sell online and partnered with some independent retailers in Chicago, Atlanta, Charlotte, and Raleigh. We are also looking to expand with some other retailers at the top of 2022!

Patrice: Sounds like a plan! Congrats on that! Like I stated before, your business is very unique and I love the whole representation and the whole meaning behind it. As far as diversity goes, how important is that to you and how do you empower not only kids, but adults on the importance of it?

Jacquelyn: Diversity is extremely important to me and to my husband especially since we are raising small children. We are factious about the images that we show them so that they see representation in television shows, the books they read, and even the celebration we do in our home. We try to make sure they understand and share with them the celebrations that are important to our family as well as people of other races and other nationalities.

Patrice: Well said! Diversity is extremely important in America! Besides Christmas wrapping paper, do you all have other wrapping paper for special occasions like birthdays, anniversaries or graduations?

Jacquelyn: Yes, absolutely!

Patrice: Great to hear! Your business is located in Atlanta and it has been reported that Greentop Gifts had the record-breaking in sales this past year. Congrats on that big accomplishment!

Jacquelyn: Thank you! We were excited to work with big supporters of our brand. 2020 was a challenging year for us and a lot of businesses and entrepreneurs. We really tried to fight through that by creating product and content that our consumers were excited about; we just thrived through the pandemic! We are grateful for the support from our customers.

Patrice: Are you currently working on any new projects? What can the readers expect next from Greentop Gifts?

Jacquelyn: We are launching our Happy Birthday collection, we are expanding that with other products, such as gift bags. We are also getting ready for the holidays! Also, we are trying to get our products with some retailers to expand the marketplace.

Miami Native On Envisioning Success Using Her Multicultural Flare And Entrepreneurial Passion

Jasmin Cadavid was born and raised in Miami, Florida. Her upbringing came from a multicultural home with her mother who is from Guatemala, and her father who is from Colombia. Jasmin is the first born of 5 children. She started receiving recognition for sports, arts, and academics at an early age, a gifted student, competitive in many direct participation activities like brain bowls, school plays, choir soloist, most valuable athlete of the year in the yearbook, most attractive amongst other accomplishments.

Jasmin easily started making a name for herself. Like a lot of other families in rural Miami, Jasmin’s atmosphere was exposed to various lifestyle ailments and struggles in the streets.  With many achievements, comes many experiences; Jasmin ended up being expelled from schools, fighting, and in and out of juvenile detention center. At the age of 17 Jasmin was already on her own and despite the troubles in the past she started slowly becoming an entrepreneur. Graduated from high school with determination to flourish. Jasmin started modeling, attended Miami acting school, went to college, bought her first property at 21, got license in real estate, from Monte Carlo’s to Mercedes; Jasmin envisioned nothing but success with no intention on slowing down anytime soon.

Influenced with her heritage, and the diverse emotional ride experienced in Hip Hop and Rhythm and Blues; Jasmin enjoys a range of musical artists. She listens to Tupac Shakur that became medicine for hidden pain and gave her a boost of strength. Tupac celebrated life through his music as a legend. Lauryn Hill and her album entitled “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill ” dedicated to her Zion was legend. Musically, Jasmin was vocally coached by the legendary Wanya Morris from BoyzllMen and is currently working on releasing her debut EP project (untitled at this time) summer 2021. Jasmin introduced to the world how the model turned multifaceted businesswoman has a passion for her musical devotion with previous releases entitled “Float,” and an upbeat tempo track entitled, “Strike A Pose.”

Fast-forwarding to date, Cadavid released the first new single February 2021 entitled “If You Let Me.” The track is a soothing sensual vibe with catchy hooks and smooth melodies. She is working towards releasing more music under her catalogue while focused on developing a record label partnership.

Jasmin Cadavid is currently the founder and C.E.O of Jazzy Rolling Papers LLC, and now has her own medicinal marijuana brand in efforts of growth in the industry called Jazzy CBD/CBG. The potential in this industry has surpassed its expectancy, so it is no question why Jasmin Cadavid chose to go against the odds or “norms.” Jazzy CBD & CBG is available in packaged flower, kief nugz, blunts, joints, cigars, and edibles. In 2020, Jazzy CBD/CBG won first place for the Hemp Cup awards for “Best Hemp Derived Pre-Roll.”

What new hobbies or interests have you gained during the pandemic?
During the pandemic the gyms were closed which forced me to go outside and use the benefits in running. Honestly, I got used to my daily runs and added a couple circuits of ab routines with it to end my regiment to stay in shape. And I haven’t stopped using this exercise routine since I created it for the benefits that it has given my body during the global pandemic.

Who are your musical inspirations?

Chris Brown has definitely inspired me, his artistic skills goes beyond just music, as well as, Tupac, Janet Jackson, Lauren Hill and Alicia Keys are my top musical inspirations. The embodiment of music inspires me these days, I tune into how the lyrics are delivered, why they were chosen on the production and what I would choose as a visual aspect behind the audio.

How have you been maintaining your creative flow during the pandemic?
Luckily for me, not much has changed in how I have been able to continuously conduct business. So, I have continued to make time to write new songs, get into the studio and allow my creatives to flow within me, and focus on the future with my artistry. Overall, I try to stay busy with the goals that I want to accomplish in the music industry and beyond as a woman in business. On the otherhand with my cannabis business, I have been enabled to operate The Jazzy CBD and Hemp world digitally with the e-commerce side which continues to grow.

The pandemic has opened my eyes to aligning the possibilities in how I can successfully operate no matter the events or circumstances with my brand.

How would you describe your musical persona?

In my opinion, I am opening my artistry more creatively daily and consider myself to be blossoming into a female version of Chris Brown with a little hint of Ariana Grande, Aaliyah and a new hood Madonna. My passion is derived within my versality.

What music artists or producers would you love to work with?
Honestly, I just want to make timeless music for the world to love and create memories with. Of course, I would love to work with some of the musical inspiration that I mentioned. As a rising artist, I want to produce a music catalogue that cannot be defined by just one genre of music.

How do you balance your music career, personal life and entrepreneurship?

Balancing my professional goals, business, brand and aspirations with my personal life is quite tedious for me. But when you are truly dedicated to succeeding and defying any odds against you, it is always a priority to try to do your best at balance especially as a mother. I wake up daily and review my to do list while speaking outloud about what I want to achieve on that day. It is truly about making a deliberate attempt to balance, accomplish and be apart of moments given on each day.

Keeping a calendar that I utilize has helped effectively, preparing a daily list of items that I seek to accomplish is essential, and being realistic in my professional and personal life is significant as well.

What motivated you to embark on having a CBD business?
I was already in the cannabis world before I ventured into CBD industry. My weed strand, Moonrocks and my custom rolling paper line was one of the first items that broke in the cannabis industry was how I truly broke into the market. I was one of the first models to have my own brand breaking barriers in the CBD business.  Originally, I started with Jazzy Kush + Banana Moonrocks with Dr. Zodiak and music legend, Kurrupt, but once this partnership ended, I decided to venture into the CBD business to further my portfolio as a woman in this business. I am grateful for the knowledge and success that my brand continues to provide as we grow.

How are you using your influence to impact your community?
My influence comes from the aspirations that I hope to achieve from my own experiences in life, and I speak out against matters like domestic violence, women empowerment, entrepreneurship, self-love, mental health, and unity. I am grateful for being able to utilize my influence to inspire, motivate and connect with people globally. We all are victims of some type of downfall at some point in our lives, and I try to utilize my own events and experiences to uplift people who truly need it.

What advice would you give to an aspiring business owner and musical artist?
One of the most important advice that I would give is to keep investing in your dreams and goals, keep being consistent in delivering steps to achieving success, and understand that hiccups will come no matter what but be diligent in your pursuit. Give it your all because you will miss every shot that you don’t take.

Jalisa Shaveh- Model Curvy Girl on New Reality Show “Thick House”

Jalisa Shaveh is on the rise and now competing on ‘The Shade Room’s newly produced reality series “Thick House”. This one is for my plus-sized queens! This show will shine a light on the voluptuous women and their black girl magic; think American Next Top Model but for melanated curvy girls.

Jalisa is not only staying busy by running her eyelash company in Panorama City, California but also spends her time as a volunteer at the nonprofit foundation “Kids In The Spotlight” and AFI school where she also volunteers her time as a makeup artist. To add to her list, Jalisa Shaveh has also modeled for Rydel, Karen T Fashion, Creator for Adore Me season campaigns, and now landed her new spot on “Thick House”.

The show premiered on Facebook Watch Sunday, May 16, 2021, showcasing the new models with flavor. This show is going to be spicy with celebrity appearances to be made by EJ King, Lizzo, and more! Be sure to tune in and support “Thick House” contestant Jalisa!

Jalisa Saveh gave me the inside scoop on how she has reached her new heights, will continue to keep soaring, and manages the stress of her responsibilities.

1. What is your background in the modeling/ fashion industry? How did you get started pursuing your dreams in modeling and being a business owner (selling mink lashes)

JALISA: My modeling career started back in 2015. I’ve walked in over 30 fashion shows, from Arkansas to Los Angeles and in between. I didn’t gain the confidence to model until my senior year in high school after witnessing models like Tocarra Jones, take the spotlight. My love for eyelashes runs deep and is inspired by my 5 younger sisters. I plan to grow my business and one day pass it on to them.

2. Who inspires you the most? How do they play a part in your success today?

JALISA: I would honestly say, I’m inspired by multiple virtuous women in my family. From their degrees, strong work ethic to leadership positions, I look up to the beautiful black women who made me who I am today. I know for a fact, I’ve been equipped for my future because of my elders (generational grace) and persistent prayer.

3. You’re involved in/volunteer with nonprofit organization Kids in the Spotlight, why that specific organization?

JALISA: I have compassion for the youth. I volunteer my services to a non-profit organization, Kids In The Spotlight. Kids In The Spotlight provides a 15-week filmmaking program to foster children throughout Southern California. These children are more than foster children, they are our future directors, writers and actors. I see my younger self in these children. They are my reminder to keep dreaming.

4. Representation and women empowerment are vital, especially in our current state, do you feel like competing in this new show will help you do that? In what manner? What do you hope to gain/ be recognized for competing in the new show “Thick House”?

JALISA: Women Empowerment is definitely more than a statement. After competing on Thick House, I hope the audience learns that collaboration is far more effective than competition. The cast and I discovered sisterhood and rooted each other on regardless of the competition. Women Empowerment is uplifting, congratulating and clapping for other women, even when it’s not your turn to shine. When one shines, we truly all shine. The show strengthened my enlightenment on women empowerment.

5. How do you manage day to day tasks when it may seem overwhelming now that you are booked and busy with modeling work, entrepreneurship, volunteering, etc.? How do you prioritize your mental health?

JALISA: Managing my day to day has strictly become day to day. I pride myself on focusing on smaller goals. What needs to be done today? How can today prepare me for tomorrow? Writing everything down! If I see it, it’s more clear. I feel like goals that are far out, seem to be most overwhelming. Keeping my priorities on today, allows me to ”stay on top of things” or be more organized which causes less stress.

6. How did this opportunity to do the show “Thick House” come about for you? Do you get nervous or doubtful when new opportunities arise? How do you get over that hump?

JALISA: This opportunity presented itself form my casting networks. When new opportunities come in my first thought is always, ”at least try.” Followed by ” If it’s for me, let it be.” I’m still overcoming my pre-stage fright, but it usually all goes away when I hit the stage. The best way to get over the doubt or fear is to pray about it, smile and tell yourself, ”I was made for this.” It all starts with self-belief.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Mary Lee Vance ~ Mic Check

Mary Lee Vance is a wife, author, entrepreneur, founder and creator of virtue with Vision The Podcast, and the Founder and creator or Pods in Excellence. She took the leap of faith at the age of 22 and moved across the country from California to Georgia away from her family and friends to go after her purpose.

Mary specializes in Podcast production – Helping those who have podcast or podcast ideas properly build their podcast from the ground up making sure that they believe in their voice, have purpose established in their shows, and create a podcast production like no other!

Mary Lee Vance has had high profile guests on her show featuring Geoffrey Golden, Keyondra Lockett, Keyla Richardson, Nicole Walters from the hit TV show She’s The Bossand so many more and now she teaches others to do the same.

Podcasting has really grown over the years. As a Podcast Strategist, what makes a good podcast?

That’s an awesome question! To have a good podcast you must have a solid foundation. You need to first find out your podcast structure. Will your show be 10 minutes? 15? An hour? Second, you need to find out if your niche of Podcasting should be scripted or should it be free form. Thirdly, you should be remembered by your intro. How will they remember you? Fourthly, what is the call to action? You should have that in your outro of every show. Lastly, consistency! In 2020, there were over 1.75 million Podcasts and only 50% made it past the 7th episode. That means 50% simply give up because they aren’t receiving the listenership and fail trying to find their niche audience. 50% don’t feel that they are adequate enough or don’t have the right equipment and feel they need fancy equipment to be the best. What makes a good podcast, is you finding your structure, cadence, and consistency even when no one else is listening. My company, Pods In Excellence, is here to shift and dominate the podcast industry by.

There are so many different podcasts, how does a person find their podcast niche?

You are absolutely right! There are a lot of podcasts out there! How do you find your niche? You find your niche when you are able to find what you are passionate about. So many people ask if there is an audience for their passion or what they want to talk about. Honestly, yes. There’s room for everyone who wants to Podcast. You just have to find your audience. Before you find your audience, believe in what you have to offer, your point of view. There are plenty of people out there that can relate and agree with your point of view.

What are some of the pitfalls that happen to new podcasters?

The biggest pitfalls that happens to new podcasters is not being able to invest in what they are trying to build. I teach in Pods In Excellence the importance of having a structure, how to turn your Podcast into a business, and how to grow their audience organically. Another huge pitfall is that new podcasters fall into the hype of people telling them that they can get tens of thousands of downloads within the first day of starting and that is not how you grow a sustainable show. With your podcast you have to be willing to fail and pivot. Try things that may or may not work and if it doesn’t work out, don’t give up, you have to try and find something that works for your niche. What may work for one Podcast, may not work for yours. You have to think long term sustainability and not short term fame.

As a wife, author and business owner, how do you carve out time to do it all?

It can be quite difficult when it comes to time. For me, the best thing that has worked is a schedule. If it’s not in my schedule it’s not happening. My husband trumps any schedule at any time because that’s my first ministry. God has given me the grace to take on all that He has given me to do!

You have a podcast right now. Tell our audience a little about what you expect from your show?

Virtue With Vision is the name of my Podcast. My show blows my mind each year. In 2020, my show was in the top 200 podcasts in Religion & Spirituality. I have had many high profile guests on my show like Keyondra Lockett, Keyla Richardson, Geoffrey Golden to name a few. My expectation of Virtue With Vision, is to help motivate your walk with Christ. I want to reach those that are saved, and show them that walking in Christ is a journey. I want to show those that aren’t saved, that my only job is to love and work towards being who God has called me to be everyday. Virtue With Vision is designed to reach people. I don’t want to be the stuck up Christian that has it all together. We’re all a mess in some way trying to get together before Jesus returns and that’s what it’s all about. I make it my duty to meet people where they are so they know that God accepts them flaws and all and so will I because I KNOW I’m not perfect. We discuss relationships, goals, life, and a whole lot of Jesus!

You’ve had a really nice guest line up. What’s the secret to getting guests to come on the show?

My secret to getting guests on my show is simply asking them! Now there’s a method to asking, and I teach that in Pods In Excellence. The key to getting who you want on your show is to make sure that your values and morals align with theirs. You want to create impact, you have to seek guests that you can both mutually benefit from. Do it scared. Do it when you may get a “no” or no response at all. Be bold and keep asking until you get your yes!

Finally, what are your dreams for your podcast and Pods In Excellence?

My dream for my Podcast is to reach people by spreading the love of Jesus. I want people to remember that, “You Deserve God’s Best Because You Are God’s Best”. My dream is to have people be reminded just how amazing they truly are. I also would love for Virtue With Vision to be syndicated. That’s a huge goal. My ultimate dream is that my people give their lives to Christ and find their freedom in Him.

My dream for Pods In Excellence is that anyone that is starting or thinking about starting a Podcast understand that they there is value and purpose in their voice. Someone out there needs you. I teach fundamental processes in growing a sustainable and lasting show and my dream is that when I dominate the Podcasting industry that the 50% of Podcasts that fade is lowered significantly.

FEEN, The New Streetwear of Fashion You Must Have! CEO of FEEN Official Talks about Journey

By Patrice Rivers @thatriverzgurlbrandllc

Patrice: What motivated/inspired you to start a business?

Kate: What motivated me to start my business is the fact that I’ve always wanted something of my own. I wanted to create a platform to not only inspire but also motivate and push true hustlers to exceed their limitations. Starting a business wasn’t about me, but more so about others. Everyone needs inspiration at some point in their life, my business FEEN helps inspire you when you need it most.

When I was younger my father got into a drinking and driving accident, leading him to a coma. Thankfully, he woke up on his birthday. Fortunately for me while my family was going through this tough time I turned to fashion as my outlet. But I was FEEN for more than just fashion. I was a FEEN for my purpose. And I was determined to be more than a fiend for alcohol as my father was. So I changed the narrative. I FEEN for my dreams!! And I created brand that will inspire you too as well.

Patrice: What makes you a pretty woman that hustles?

Kate: Without a doubt I’m a pretty woman that hustles. Humbly speaking, I am good looking on the outside, but I’m more beautiful on the inside which makes me pretty. I embody my brand’s motto, Hustle, Grind, Rewind. Every day I wake up I make it a priority to work towards my business, personal brand, and overall goals. I create opportunities for myself and the people around me. Not only do I create opportunities but I also open doors for myself. I am a true believer that you get what you work for. So I’m striving to work towards everything I want and desire 24/7.

Patrice: What is the name of your business(es) and what are they all about?

Kate: The name of my business is FEEN. FEEN is a premium streetwear brand that caters to women and men. While providing quality streetwear FEEN also provides hope. FEEN pushes their consumer to live by their motto, Hustle, Grind, Rewind and FEEN for their dreams! The fact of the matter is that we all crave and have a desire for something(s). FEEN helps you express your hustle for whatever that may be.

Patrice: Have you faced any challenges in your business?

Kate: Of course I have faced challenges in my business. But, every challenge I have ever faced I’ve overcome through preservation. Any challenge I encounter I take it as a lesson, I learn and grow from it. In the end every challenge it’s all a part of my journey and my story. I am trusting the process through every trial and tribulation.

Patrice: What projects are you’re currently working on?

Kate: Currently I am working on an upcoming collection, a podcast in the making, as well as a huge event I am producing together this summer that will focus on giving creatives like myself a platform that started from the ground up.

Patrice: How do you face diversity as a woman entrepreneur?

Kate: As a powerful female entrepreneur I face diversity by embracing it. I feel powerful when I’m the only woman in the room, because I know I make a difference.  Diversity takes you out of your comfort zone, and that’s when you grow the most when you’re uncomfortable.

Patrice: Is balancing your personal life, work life and business life difficult for you at times?

Kate: Honestly, I would say that I balance my personal and business life pretty well. Sometimes it’s a thin line in between the two and as an entrepreneur you may give more to one than the other but life is about finding the balance that’s comfortable to YOU.

Patrice: What does being an entrepreneur or business owner mean to you?

Kate: Being an entrepreneur to me means that I control my own time, financial freedom, and direction of my energy to whatever I please. Having that type of control on your life is a power like no other. Don’t get me wrong, everything in life has its ups and downs, and entrepreneurship isn’t for everyone. But I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Melissa P. Latson ~ I Will Survive!

Melissa P. Latson is the CEO/Founder of MEL Developing Center, Inc. (Motivating, Elegant Ladies) a 501 c3 (non-profit) established in 2012. Her experienced Entrepreneur skills positioned her to move forward as a passionate Confidence Advisor. She is the First Black African American Female to be on the HOA Board of Directors in her community and serves as a committed Community Advocate. Her story is her glory as a Survivor and an Advocate of Domestic Violence. Newly Co-Author for “She Is Well Book” her chapter “Starring through the Peephole – The Journey of Reclaiming My Life after Abuse”. Melissa teaches young ladies and women How to Break Through the Confidence Code in their lives in order to produce good fruit and better relationships. Her desire is for all to Be the best version of who you are Becoming.

MEL Development Center was founded by you in 2012. What does MEL stand for?

Motivating Elegant Ladies What does MEL offer? Our program model is based on Uniqueness, being different is good. Girls that attend our classes will be able to find their own unique self and be able to distinguish the difference between healthy and toxic relationships. We teach girls  how to develop confidence, learn the importance of being independent so that they can be elevated to their Greatness.

Melissa, you are also a Confidence Advisor, explain to our readers what a Confidence Advisor is and what you do?

Confidence is taught not inherited. When I got a taste of having confidence, I felt sure of myself and my abilities to be my authentic self. I wanted to give that feeling to others that’s why I chose Confidence Advisor. Helping others feel ready for life’s experiences doing what will take you out of your comfort zone and to a place of believing in yourself. You will stand strong to your inner critic.

As a survivor and advocate of Domestic Violence, what advice can you give both males and females who are involved in domestic violence situations?

It’s not your fault, hurt people, hurt people. No one deserves to be abused but everyone deserves to be love and in a place of safety and security. Find someone who you can trust and someone who can offer professional consultation, validation and resources to help alleviate the situation to find an escape plan.

On the flip side, what advice can you give others who want to become advocates of Domestic Violence?

First of all, Silence is Violence so if you see something say something there are Help Centers all around the world. Domestic Violence has definitely been on the rising lately. Approach every situation with a listening ear and ensure them that they are not alone. Don’t be too quick to tell a victim to leave their abuser or that they need a change, it will probably not work in your favor. The process is to ease with caution while making sure the victim is safe. Even though, the victim needs to make a change, sometimes the pain of staying the same is greater than the pain of changing. Connect with them with a genuine heart.

You are also a Co-Author for “She Is Well Book” your chapter “Starring through the Peephole – The Journey of Reclaiming My Life after Abuse” speaks to so many. What can you tell our readers about being a co-author on this project?

The movement “She Is Well” was a belief changer. Being a Co-Author sharing my story helped me heal even more through the pain I endured as a victim of domestic violence. It opened up dimensions within myself, I saw more of my entrepreneur skills come out. This Co-Author journey expanded my confidence to a new level. Although, I have been told I should write a book about my life,

“The scariest moment is always just before you start.”- (Stephen King) I pushed through it. I trusted my intuition and the promise. When I see that I’m changing other people’s lives by sharing my truth, it reminds me of why I started and why I must keep going on The Journey of Reclaiming My Life after Abuse.

Lastly, what new projects are you working on?

New Projects are definitely coming!! I will be writing a book all about me and my journey that wasn’t shared in the group book. I need to continue saving lives with my truth. My silence has been violence for too long.

God has worked all things out in my favor and I’m honored to be his vessel.

My “Future Vision Board Book” will be out in June. It will help people to keep their eyes on their vision understand the importance of finishing things you start. My “ConfHERdence t-shirts and mugs will be out shortly. It’s different and I know it, that’s why I’m so excited about it. Different is Good. “Be different so that people can see you clearly amongst the crowds”-Mehmet Murat

Monesha has hosted several events throughout the city of Atlanta, Georgia as well as promotional modeling for several venues including, Opera Night Club. In the summer of 2016 Doll was offered an opportunity to join a local internet radio show as a host for a rotating chair. With Doll’s fan base and charismatic personality, she was able to land a full time and permanent spot as one of the hosts on the show where she stayed until the later part of January 2019. She then decided to pursue further media and journalism opportunities.

Monesha has written for Kontrol Magazine and hosted several celebrity interviews and events. In 2017 Mo released the official “Ms Atl Doll” 2017 calendar landing her the title of “published model” with FB studios of Atlanta. “Mo Clark” can been seen on several short series such as; “Music and Murder”, “Shared Feelings”, “Just Ask Joe”, and so many more.

In 2014 Mo started her own lipstick line which has expanded to lashes and several different colors and textures of lipsticks. Although busy, she still found time to pursue her passion of creating her own radio show, DaPostUp, which is now a TV show on Status Network’s Global Vision TV. She keeps you up to speed and in the know with what’s happening in Atlanta, Georgia. Just your average girl next door with connections in ATL.

Q: You started your career as an event planner in 2014. What did you learn from that experience to help you in your current business?

A: Great question. Honestly, I lost a baby in 2014. I almost lost my life trying to carry him. So after I went through that phase I needed an escape. Facebook was my escape. The lipstick line was kind of already in progress before the ectopic pregnancy, so once I lost the baby, I just started jumping online and promoting the by lipstick line. At the time, some of the Facebook groups wouldn’t allow you to out right promote. I decided to be creative and do my makeup and post a lot of selfies. By doing this, I caught the eye of several DJ’s and promoters that were putting together street teams and such. I linked up with them in hopes of spreading the word about my makeup line. That experience taught me that I didn’t want to promote lol. It involved showing up at the club and staying out All times of the  night. I didn’t want to do that, so I decided to end that career.

Q:Your lipstick line also launched in 2014. What’s the name of it and what inspired you to go into cosmetics?

A: The name of the lipstick line is “Myka J” and it stands for my daughters and my son that I lost. So Myka J (Mya, Kamey, and Jordyan). I was inspired to do cosmetics because I loved the bright colors snd I wasn’t seeing a lot of people of color that were comfortable wearing them. I wanted to break that. Also I wanted to start something that my daughters could continue to grow.

Q: How did you coin the name “Ms Atl Doll”?

A: I used that as my promo name. I’m small in stature and I’m located in Atl… so that’s that.

Q: As a radio show host, what is the most interesting interview you can remember? What did you take away from it?

A:  I truly enjoyed interviewing HotBoy Turk and his wife Emani. Turk was very open up Cash Money and the rapper life. They were candid about being married and how Emani dealt with Turk’s being locked up.

Q: You have your own radio show now called DaPost Up which warped into a TV show. Tell our readers what DaPost Up is about and where they caCosmetics?

A:  DaPostUp us a fun show! I enjoy having my own show. I’ve been a part of shows that didn’t like me to talk about certain things. With my show I get to report ALL things entertainment. Whether it’s music, stocks, tragedy of triumph. No boundaries. I love being able to interview people from all walks of life! I don’t need to interview EVERY famous person. I like entrepreneurs, authors, singers, actors, models, realtors, and so many more.

Q: Finally, 2021 is the year of taking everything we lost during COVID back. What do you have on deck for 2021?

A:  I actually didn’t stop. I kept working via covid, whether it was Instagram Live or zoom.  I was in a short film entitled “Shared Feelings”, and I kept cohosting “One on One with Johnnie Cabbell with Cohost Ashley and Mo Clark”. I definitely expect to do more this year. My client Cheating Ass Myron is about to go on tour with his comedy. My other client Razi is dropping a new music video on BET jams soon. So in addition to my cosmetic line and tv show, I’ve been doing PR work and helping industry professionals get their press kits together and pitching them to magazines for write ups.

KOCKTAIL KULTURE IS BRINGING THE KULTURE OF ALL THINGS IN BARTENDING

As a spirit’s enthusiast, with over 10 years’ experience, collectively, working in the service industry and “behind the bar,” Tyemerica has successfully executed spirits promotions, helping to launch various spirit brand activations for Ciroc, Crown Royal, Hypnotic, Fireball, BelAire, Jose Cuervo, Titos, Seagrams, Bacardi (and many more). Frequenting large scale events such as Black Bike Week and CIAA, this provided her with the exposure and the ability to personally secure business working as a bottle girl and bartending with various party promoters in South Carolina and North Carolina. In addition, she landed the opportunity to work as a brand ambassador/ model/ bartender for the former SC Ciroc Fam, where she trained under the leadership of Charleston, SC’s Nightlife guru “Twenty.” She executed activations for high celebrity profile concerts, club appearances, booking events; college tailgating and homecoming parties by helping to create brand awareness and educating consumers for Ciroc Ultra-Premium Vodka. This eventually landed her a lead spirits promotional model position with a national agency, MKTG, Inc. and head bartender position with High Star Entertainment, based out of Charleston, SC. She has also been featured on the former Media and Arts, hosted by H-Dub, on-air personality for a top urban radio station in Columbia, SC. During the segment she discussed her love for the service industry, “modeling,” and the adult cocktail industry. This gave her visibility in the southeast region of the nation.

When not bartending or executing spirits promotions, she is juggling parenthood as a mother of 2, volunteering as the Operations Coordinator of the “Purple Stilettos” Women’s Empowerment Group, and creating content to grow her mobile bartending school and cocktail business “Kocktail Kulture.”

Patrice: What motivated/inspired you to start a business?

Tyemerica: The love and passion I develop for the hospitality industry and the need to support my family by legitimate means. It began in 2013 when I had little experience, I was given a shot at being a spirit’s promotional model and it took off from there. I’m not getting any younger. Sometimes the industry is vain, so I needed a backup plan for when my looks fade, lol. And of course the money!

Patrice: What makes you a pretty woman that hustles?

Tyemerica: My passion and drive to succeed; to make it to the top and bring others with me.

Patrice: What is the name of your business(es) and what are they all about?

Tyemerica: Kocktail Kulture is a mobile bartending school that travels throughout the state of South Carolina instructing individuals in the fundamentals of bartending; a beginners bartending class.

Patrice: Have you faced any challenges in your business?

Tyemerica: Yes, anyone who tells you they don’t face challenges in running a business is lying, lol. From having enough people in class or staffing for a party to not having enough funds for supplies like alcohol which is needed for class, you’re bound to run into challenges. I overcame them by praying for guidence and taking a step back from the challenge to approach it another day, so I can have a clear head to think it out.

Patrice: What projects are you currently working on?

Tyemerica: My plans are to partner with various venues/ locations to offer staffing and job placement for bartenders, shot girls, bottle girls, and spirits promotional models. In addition to other classes within the industry.

Patrice: How do you face diversity as a woman entrepreneur?

Tyemerica: Diversity is extremely hard, especially here in the south. I face it by remembering who I’m doing this for, by remembering who my audience and target demographic is and why I’m doing this. Also, when first starting out in this industry, people never wanted to help or give you their info. So I wanted to be that person who gave people direction and info to get started and to help them grow in the hospitality industry as a bartender.

Patrice: Is balancing your personal life, work life and business life difficult for you at times?

Tyemerica: Balancing is extremely difficult…work and business life. Other than taking care of family, I leave the personal life out of it because I’m a Capricorn and we’re all about our business and coins, lol, no time for personal lives 😉

Patrice: What does being an entrepreneur or business owner mean to you?

Tyemerica: It means having the freedom to work on your terms and work in your purpose and passion—when I want, how I want, and where I want. I quit a full-time job I use to have because I was tired of clocking in and out, day-to-day NOT doing what I love, waking up every day knowing I had to deal with a rude client, an incompetent boss, and not being trained on procedures but expected to produce outstanding work…you grow tired of chaos.
